We're getting
you ready to
move to nbn™.

nbn is a government initiative, replacing the network
that currently provides your home phone and
internet service. And, as a valued Telstra customer,
we’re making it easy for you.

Order your free nbn Telstra connection kit

The Telstra nbn Connection Kit has everything you need to connect to the nbn, including a free Telstra Gateway Max™ (modem) and a new cordless home telephone. This equipment is specially designed to work on your current service as well as on the nbn.

You’ll need to replace your old modem with the Telstra Gateway Max before we can start the process to move your existing home internet and voice service to the nbn.

Your plan with Telstra will not change. With the Telstra nbn Connection Kit, your move to the nbn will be free as long as you install the Telstra Gateway Max yourself. Most customers will find it relatively easy, but if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, we can send a professional installer to your home to set up your service for a fee.

There is only a limited number of connection kits available.

  • The nbn™ is replacing the existing network that delivers home phone and internet services in your area.
  • If you want these services to keep working, then you’ll need to move to the nbn™.
  • Your phone now works through the Telstra Gateway Max – On the nbn™ the voice service works through the gateway, so you’ll need to keep your gateway turned on to make and receive telephone calls.
  • Your home phone service will not work during a power outage – you won’t be able to make or receive phone calls if there is no power to the modem, including calls to Emergency ‘000’ services. Accordingly we recommend having a mobile phone available, if you are seeking emergency assistance during a power outage.
  • Your phones will not work when connected directly to a wall socket - Your telephone service is changing and your phone will need to be connected directly to the Gateway, or connected wirelessly using the supplied phone or similar handset, to work after you have moved to the nbn™. If you have multiple handsets or devices like a fax around the home you wish to keep using, rewiring of those sockets will be required. Your Gateway can be connected to any wall socket although internet performance may vary depending on which socket you connect to and how many sockets are in the home.
  • You can use your Mobile to make and receive home phone voice calls through the T-Voice App - the new Gateway you are being supplied with is compatible with the T-Voice App. The Telstra T-voice app allows you to use your smartphone as an additional handset to make and receive calls using your home phone line. Simply download the app from your smartphone’s app store and follow the on screen instructions. Your smartphone will need to be connected to the Gateway via Wi-Fi.
  • No. There is no additional change to your current plan.
  • If you’re comfortable replacing your current ADSL modem on your own, then there are no additional charges.
  • Your equipment is free.
  • An onsite visit to set up your Telstra Gateway Max, or change the wiring in your home, is available for a fee. Please call 1800 996 203 for further details.
  • Options for faster speeds (Speed Boosts) are also available for a monthly fee. Learn more.
  • The National Broadband Network (nbn™) is a Federal Government initiative to update the communications infrastructure across the country. The new network will give Australians access to fast, reliable phone and internet services.
  • Your area will utilise Fibre to the Node (FTTN) technology, which involves using the existing copper network to connect to the nbn™ fibre network via a cabinet located in a street.
  • Telstra is currently providing you with a telephone and internet service using PSTN (The Public Switch Telephone Network) or POTS (plain old telephone service) and ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line).
  • As part of the agreement between Telstra and the Government, the ADSL and PSTN networks in your area will be switched off and replaced with the FTTN network. This means if you don’t move your service to the nbn™ within the prescribed period, your telephone and internet services will no longer work.
  • Also, once you move your services to the nbn™, you won’t be able to move back to services on the PSTN or ADSL networks.
  • We recommend you contact your alarm service provider before making the move to the nbn™. They’re best placed to advise if your device is compatible, and provide you with other relevant information about moving your alarm to the nbn™.
  • Information about alarm compatibility can also be found at www.nbnco.com.au/compatibility. This includes links to the websites of alarm providers who have provided information about compatibility with the nbn™.
  • It is important to note that services on the nbn™ (FTTN) will not have a battery back up; so back to base alarms, medi-alert systems (or any other equipment that relies on the home phone to work) will not work in a power outage. So we also recommend that you check with your alarm service provider whether they have a wireless solution available.
  • If you have a medi-alert alarm, you should also register with nbn™'s Medical Alarm Register by calling 1800 227 300 or completing the online form at www.nbnco.com.au/medicalregister.
  • If you have a security or medical alarm service that is connected directly to the phone service, some rewiring may be required in your home. If you have either of these products, ask us about our installation services.
  • If you have more than one phone socket in the home you want to continue to use as a phone socket, or if you have a hard-wired phone you want to use or remove, we can help with professional installation.
  • If you just want help with the configuration, contact us on 1800 996 203 to organise for assistance from a member from our Platinum Services Team.
