nbn technician appointments - how they work.
Once you've ordered your nbn plan, if you need an nbn technician we'll set up an appointment for you. If not, we'll let you know when your service is ready so you can set up your modem yourself.
We schedule your appointment
We set up the earliest possible appointment time and send you an order ID. Use this ID to check or reschedule your appointment via the order tracker below.

Someone over 18 will need to be home during your appointment to decide where to install the nbn equipment. See below for tips on how to get ready for the appointment.

FAQs - Connecting your home internet
Enter your address into our nbn address checker. This tells you if the nbn's network is available at your address and which nbn technology type you’ll be connected to.
You can also use our live nbn rollout map to see where the is in relation to your street and suburb.
In most cases, nbn co ltd installs the nbn's network at your home at no cost. For new homes that have never had internet before, there is a $300 nbn New Development Charge which you’ll need to pay.
If you take up a Telstra nbn plan online, we waive the $99 connection fee.
You can install your Telstra Smart Modem yourself for $0. Or you can get a Telstra technician to connect your modem and devices for a one-off fee of $240.
If your property has not previously been connected to the nbn's network or the Opticomm access network, or it hasn't had a working service for a long period of time, a technician may need to come to your address to set it up.
You may choose to set up your Telstra Smart Modem, or you can request a Telstra technician to help set up the modem and connect your Wi-Fi devices for you.
Once your order is submitted, we'll send you an order reference number and details in an email. You can track your order and any appointments in My Telstra, or with our order tracker.
When your service is connected, you'll get an email from Telstra confirming your order is completed. Also, your Telstra Smart Modem light will be green – indicating you are fully connected (to the nbn's network or Opticomm access network). Whilst you are waiting, you can use your service via 4G backup if you are within a 4G coverage area.
Yes, Telstra's satisfaction guarantee is our promise to you that if you're not happy within 30 days of connection and if we can't fix it for you, you can cancel with no further charges. Read our satisfaction guarantee.
No, any copper phone lines you have will no longer work once you are connected to the nbn's network.
The good news is, Telstra nbn plans come with an internet-based home phone line included. You can even use the same number.
