Payments

Upfront plan payments are simpler

By setting up your AutoPay method, payments are made upfront, automatically each month. You’ll get a reminder beforehand.

This way, there are no surprises. From time to time your plan price may change, but we’ll tell you before it does.

More flexibility, more control

Month-to-month plans mean you are no longer locked in to a long term contract. If your situation changes, you can change to an Upfront plan, once a month. Note, if you cancel your plan, you’ll need to pay out any devices or accessories in full at the time you cancel.

What happens to my payments when I move to an Upfront plan?

The way we bill you has changed.

The examples below show how your payment will work.

  1. Commencement of service
    • Your new Upfront plan is now active and all of its benefits are available to you.
    • If you've added a device, the first device payment was paid on the day you signed up.
  2. Your monthly plan payment
Your monthly charge for your Upfront plan will be deducted by your nominated account via AutoPay and the payment date will be aligned to the date your regular monthly bill is issued.
  3. Device repayments
If you've added a device on repayments, the first device payment was paid on the day you signed up. Your ongoing monthly device payment will be charged based on the device delivery date. This may be different to your plan payment date.
  4. Recurring bill for other services
This separate bill will include charges for your other Telstra services or accessories like a headset or watch, excluding your Upfront plan charges.

New terms explained

View more new terms

When reading about the Telstra Upfront Plans, you may come across some new words. Let’s explain some of our key terms for you.

AutoPay

AutoPay is our new payment method. It’s the only way you can pay for your services on Upfront plans.

With AutoPay, you set up automatic upfront monthly payments using your nominated credit card, debit card or bank account. Set and forget - there are no surprises with AutoPay.

Billing cycle

When you become a Telstra customer and receive a bill for your service, we allocate you a specific date of the month when your billing period starts.

For example, if we start your billing period on the 5th of each month, you’ll be charged from the 5th of that month to the 4th of the next month. This billing period won’t change, even if you take up a new plan or service.

Upfront Mobile plans

They’re our new, month-to-month plans. With no excess data charges. They’re paid from the first day of the billing cycle, rather than at the end.
