Payments

Upfront Mobile plan payments are simpler

By setting up your AutoPay method, payments are made upfront, automatically each month. You’ll get a reminder beforehand.

This way, there are no surprises. From time to time your plan price may change, but we’ll tell you before it does.

More flexibility, more control

Month-to-month plans mean you are no longer locked in to a long term contract. If your situation changes, you can change Upfront Mobile plan too, once a month. Note, if you cancel your plan, you’ll need to pay out any devices or accessories in full at the time you cancel.

What happens when I change to an Upfront Mobile plan from another post-paid plan?

You’ll receive the last bill for your previous mobile plan on the regular billing date.

You’ll be credited for any overlap time with your new Upfront Mobile plan, so this bill will be less than usual as it will contain the credit for any overlap in dates.

The examples below show how the billing cycle works if you have multiple services or a single service.

  1. First upfront payment
When you sign up you establish the payment date, amount, and AutoPay method for your new plan.

Your payment consists of your monthly Upfront Mobile plan cost plus  your selected device payment (monthly cost) if relevant to your order.

  2. Final charges for previous plan + other billed services
This bill will contain the final amount to be paid for your previous mobile plan.

After this, the only payment you will make will be for your new Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan which will be debited monthly via AutoPay, on the day you signed up.

You will also be billed your usual monthly amount for your other billed services.

  3. Recurring AutoPay
On the first month’s anniversary of the day you signed up to your new Upfront Mobile plan, the monthly instalment will be deducted from your nominated account via AutoPay.

This will continue to occur on the same day of each month, until the plan is changed or cancelled.

  4. Recurring bill for other services
This bill will contain your charges for your other services and will not include your Mobile Upfront plan charges.

New terms explained

View more new terms

When reading about the Telstra Upfront Mobile Plans, you may come across some new words. Let’s explain some of our key terms for you.

AutoPay

AutoPay is our new payment method. It’s the only way you can pay for your upfront services.

With AutoPay, you set up automatic upfront monthly payments using your nominated credit card, debit card or bank account. Set and forget - there are no surprises with AutoPay.

Billing cycle

When you become a Telstra customer and receive a bill for your service, we allocate you a specific date of the month when your billing period starts.

For example, if we start your billing period on the 5th of each month, you’ll be charged from the 5th of that month to the 4th of the next month. This billing period won’t change, even if you take up a new plan or service.

Upfront Mobile plans

They’re our new, month-to-month mobile plan. With no excess data charges. They’re paid from the first day of the billing cycle, rather than at the end.
