Payments

What happens to my payments when I move to an Upfront Plan?

The way we bill you has changed.

With AutoPay, instead of issuing a monthly bill, we take the payment on the first day of your billing period for the month ahead. We used to issue you with a Telstra bill a month in advance and you had a set number of days to make a payment before the due date.

The examples below show how your payment will work. If you updated your plan before the 5th of April 2022, learn more about how your payments work.

  1. Commencement of service
Your Upfront Plan is now active, and all of its benefits are available to you.
  2. Your monthly plan payment
Your monthly charge for your Upfront Plan will be debited from your nominated account via AutoPay and the payment date will be aligned to the date your regular monthly bill is issued or to an existing AutoPay date.
  3. Device repayments
If you've added a device on a repayment plan, the first device payment was paid on the day you signed up.

Your ongoing monthly device payment will be charged on the same day as your monthly plan payment date, once your device has been received.
  4. Recurring bill for other services
This separate bill will include charges for your other Telstra services or accessories like a headset or watch, excluding your Upfront Plan charges.

How you pay for your services is changing

It may feel like you are being double charged. This is not the case.
Let’s explain using a customer example.

Upfront Plan payments on AutoPay

AutoPay is our new payment method. It’s the only way you can pay for your upfront services.

By setting up your AutoPay method, payments are made upfront, automatically each month using your nominated credit card, debit card or bank account. You’ll get a reminder beforehand.

This way, there are no surprises. From time to time your plan price may change, but we’ll tell you before it does.
