To get onto Telstra Air® when you’re overseas, you’ll need to connect to a Fon Hotspot. Here’s how.

Before you leave:

  • You need to activate and connect Telstra Air on your device;
  • If you have an Android™ device, an iPhone or an iPad , also download the Telstra Air app before you go. Windows Phones and other devices can connect overseas without an app.

Once you’re over there:

For Android devices

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is switched on and the Telstra Air app is open;
  • When in range you’ll automatically connect to a Fon Spot, and the app will notify you.
  • It could take a minute or two - connecting to the Wi-Fi hotspot is not instantaneous.

For iPad and iPhone

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is switched on and the Telstra Air app is open;
  • Check your Wi-Fi network list for a Fon partner network.  It will usually have ‘Fon’ in the name and ‘Telstra Air’ underneath it. See below list.

After the first time, it’s automatic

Once you’ve connected to a Fon Spot, if you keep your Wi-Fi on and the Telstra Air app open in the background, you’ll automatically be connected to other Fon Spots when you’re in range and the app will notify you.

For Windows Phone and other devices

To connect without the Telstra Air app:

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is switched on:
  • Check your Wi-Fi network list for a Fon partner network; it will usually have ‘Fon’ in the name. See below list:
  • Once you’ve connected to this network, open your web browser.
  • A Fon Partner login page should open in your browser. See below:
  • Select ‘Login’ and when prompted enter your @wifi.telstra.com username and password into the Fon login page:
  • You should then see a page saying that you’ve successfully connected.

Different country, different Fon Wi-Fi network

Fon partners in each country have their own Wi-Fi network names.

To connect to a country’s Fon Spots, your device must first ‘associate’ with that country’s network. This happens the first time you select a network name in your list of available Wi-Fi networks.

These are Fon’s partners, and their Wi-Fi network names to look for around the world:
