Why would I use PayPal for online shopping?
It's a great option when you don't want to pay directly with your card.
What is PayPal?
PayPal allows you to buy and sell world-wide via electronic funds transfer. Essentially, you have a digital wallet. It's safer and can be more convenient than paying by cash or card.
How does it work?
You create an online PayPal account linked to your bank account, credit or debit card, or all three. For security, you can only link a card that has a security number (a CVV code).
If you've linked a credit card, you can usually still redeem points, and have extra peace of mind if your card has fraud protection.
Once PayPal is set up, you transfer money from your bank to create a balance. If the price of an item exceeds your balance, money will first be drawn from your PayPal account, and then from your linked bank account or card.
Just be aware that transferring money to the PayPal account from your bank can take 3-5 days.
Do I have to pay a fee?
If you're buying, PayPal doesn't charge anything. You may get a surcharge from your credit card provider if paying by credit card. Currency conversion for an overseas purchase will also incur a fee.
If you're a merchant, PayPal will charge fees.
Will my transactions be secure?
There is built in security as PayPal encrypts and constantly monitors all transactions. Since data safety is critical to their business, they're invested in security.
How do I keep track of purchases?
You'll receive an email confirmation of payment after every purchase. You can also log in to check your payment history at any time.

Who accepts PayPal?
PayPal has been around for more than ten years and millions of stores use it around the world. If you're curious about which stores allow for purchases using PayPal, check out the PayPal Directory.
Online stores that accept PayPal usually have a PayPal symbol. When you buy, click on the symbol and enter your PayPal account details like your email address and password. If you're out and about, use the PayPal app on your mobile device. There are apps for both Android and iOS.
Can I transfer money?
Yes, you can transfer money to friends or family and you can also transfer from PayPal back to your bank account, and setup recurring payments for certain subscription services.
How do I set up an account?
It's easy. Go to the PayPal site, then:
Enter your details, email address and set up a password
Link your bank account, debit card, credit card or all three
Set up a preferred payment method
That's it! Now you can go shopping.
