Special Services and the rollout of the nbnTM network

Planning your transition to superior
network capabilities.

We’ll soon be required to stop providing copper network services, in line with the rollout of the nbnTM network.

In business, you can’t stand still, and that’s especially true with the rollout of the nbn™ network. As the rollout accelerates, every Australian business will soon be impacted. Telstra is well positioned to help you plan your journey, ensuring we act on your business objectives, so you can create a platform for innovation.

nbnTM has announced its launch of additional replacement product capabilities in a white paper available at the nbnTM website

We must now start progressively withdrawing and disconnecting those more advanced or complex services (known as “Special Services”) that these new nbnTM product capabilities will replace. Our Migration Plan can be found on the ACCC website

In addition, we’ll cease the sale of, and discontinue Special Services due to the supporting technologies and platforms nearing the end of life. You can find our previous announcement at the following links: ISDN CustomNet

As your trusted partner, we’re here to help you make a transition to available alternative solutions.

The impact to your business

We’re required to disconnect the copper network that is currently used to deliver these services, on a region by region basis, in alignment with the nbnTM rollout.

Our Migration Plan outlines how we’ve agreed to progressively withdraw these services (further details of the disconnection processes that apply, any exceptions, and the process we will use to notify you about the timing for disconnection, are contained in Required Measure 5 (A) of the Migration Plan).

The impact to your business

We have decided to exit these services across all of Australia by 2022. Before this time, we expect that the underlying technologies and platforms that support the these services would have ceased being supported by the relevant vendors, meaning we would no longer be able to provision and maintain services to satisfactory levels. During this period we expect that the nbnTM rollout would reach up to 92% of Australian premises, and we’re subsequently being required to disconnect the copper network that is currently used to deliver the Affected Services on a region by region basis.

Our Migration Plan outlines how we’ve agreed to progressively withdraw these services (further details of the disconnection processes that apply, any exceptions, and the process we will use to notify you about the timing for disconnection, are contained in Required Measure 5 (D) of the Migration Plan).
