Telstra Security helps protect your data

NITIN SINGH (Acting Executive Director, Information Technology Services, Victoria University): We began with shutting down four campuses with an opportunity to start fresh from ground up at the city centre to establish this vertical campus. We had to make this work. When you get an opportunity to start from scratch, you wanna take that opportunity to try something new.

We chose Cisco's Software-Defined Access network architecture to future-proof our university. And we chose Telstra Purple as our enablement partner. We were really impressed with the type of team, the skills, the approach they brought to the table in terms of delivery of this particular project.

TAVIS McINTOSH (Network Engineer, Victoria University): This is a very complex building. We've got 410 access points, 250 switches. We have thousands of student devices coming through the campus. We decided to go an SDA deployment because it's scalable, it's secure and it's easy to manage.

The amazing thing about this network is we're able to manage the network through a single pane of glass. 

NITIN SINGH: We've seen a shift in where we need to enable security policies and access in a traditional network in around 10 days, versus a couple of hours here in SDA network.

TAVIS McINTOSH: There's a lot more analytics. So it's much easier for our support teams. They're able to assist the client on the first point of call.

NITIN SINGH: Students can come and securely access our network. At the same time, we are also having visibility on our partners or anyone else who's joining and we can not only facilitate a quick and seamless access, but at the same time, a secure access to them.

TAVIS McINTOSH: It was a big vision, and the genius of Telstra Purple breaking it down in these work packages meant that we were able to achieve these little goals. And the university opened and we have this amazing network.

NITIN SINGH: Our team felt more confident in working with their technical experts to not only leverage what they were telling us, at the same time, they also allowed us to get our own hands dirty in the same technology. And that's where Telstra Purple really shine.

TAVIS McINTOSH: As I walk through the building now, I feel so proud of what we've achieved. This was a very ambitious build.

NITIN SINGH: As a collective team, working with Cisco, working with Telstra Purple, I couldn't have been any prouder that we've been able to deliver this project within budget effectively and seamlessly. And the experience and the technologies over here are phenomenal.
