Telstra is simplifying its plans and products to ensure that we can better serve our customers, and provide you with great value on our latest Pre-Paid plans. 

No. We’ll be progressively updating all our Pre-Paid customers to our latest plans. This update will be automatic - there is no need to do a thing, and your service will not be disrupted during the update. We’ll let you know at least 30 days in advance when your update will occur and keep you informed of its progress.      

You will receive an SMS or email from us confirming the update has taken place. 

We’ll be progressively updating our customers’ Pre-Paid plans over the next six months so your family members can continue using their service as normal. We will get in touch via SMS or email when their update is approaching, but rest assured we will provide at least 30 days notice before we make any change. 

Your plan update will be automatic and you will be able to make calls, text and use data without any disruption to your service. There may be a small window of approx. 5mins on the day of your update where recharges or plan changes may not be successful. 

For customers on shorter expiry recharges, we will provide at least 30 days notice before updating your plan so you have plenty of time to decide whether your updated plan is right for you before your next recharge. 

• Many of our older plans such as Long Life or Long Life Plus are based on a "pay as you go" concept. That is, you pay for a certain amount of credit, and every time you use the service it is debited from that credit. All use is on a usage basis – that is calls are "charged" at a per minute basis, data at a per MB basis, SMS at a 'per unit’ basis. 
• Our new plan is different. Customers updated to our new Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Casual plan will enjoy the flexibility of set amounts of included call minutes, and text to standard Australian numbers. data, international call minutes and international text, as shown in the recharge table at the top of the page.
• Let's say on your current plan you use all your credit on a phone call that took longer than expected. With no credit left, you would’ve had to buy a new recharge to be able to send a text message or use data. On your updated plan, even if that same national phone call might consume all your allocated national minutes, you’ll still be able to use your text allocation or your included data without having to buy a new recharge. But don’t worry, if you run out of calling minutes, text, data or international calls, packs can be purchased as long as you have an active recharge so you don’t need to recharge your service again.  

As the inclusions are quite generous per usage type (calls and text to standard Australian numbers, data, international calls and text) compared to your current "pay as you go" plan, to remain competitive and offer you great value in each recharge we have had to remove rollover.

There is no change to your 3G and 4G network access. If you have a 5G compatible device, you'll continue to have 5G network access until your current recharge expires. Once your current recharge expires, you’ll need to change to the Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile plan where 5G network access is only included on $60 recharges.

No, your phone number will not change through the automatic plan update.

No, you will continue to be able to recharge through the same recharge channels you use today. However if you have a saved credit, debit card or auto recharge setup, for security reasons these will not carry over automatically to your updated plan. You’ll need to setup your saved credit card payment or Auto Recharge again once you’ve been updated. It’s fast, secure and easy to do via the My Telstra app or my.telstra.com.au. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to set up a Telstra ID to access My Telstra. 

In order to simplify the plans we offer to our customers, we‘ve had to remove some of our older plan features using recharge credit for premium SMS or caller tones. However by simplifying our plans, we can better serve the Pre-Paid customers and provide our customers with great value on our latest Pre-Paid Mobile plans.

• That won’t be a problem. On the day of your update, your remaining recharge credit balance will be converted into a set number of mins, texts to standard Australian numbers, data, international mins and internationals texts. These inclusions will come with a 14 day to 2 year expiry (14 day expiry applies for credit balances under $15 and 2 year expiry applies for credit balances over $300).
• Want to know exactly what you’ll get? Your recharge credit balance on the day of your update will be converted based on the below table – simply find your recharge credit balance to see what will be included: 

For example, if you had $55 on the day of your plan update, your credit will be converted to 160 mins and 180 SMS to standard Australian numbers, 600MB data, 10 minutes of standard international calls to selected destinations in both zone 1 and zone 2 and 10 international SMS to any destination – all to use within 186 days. 

• Instead of making calls from your recharge credit at confusing rates which vary by destination, the Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Casual plan gives you included calling minutes to 50 destinations. Each recharge gives you a set number of minutes to the 20 destinations in Zone 1 and 30 destinations in Zone 2 plus international texts to any destination.

• For security reasons, any saved credit card/debit card details will not carry over automatically to your updated plan.
• You’ll need to setup your saved credit or Auto Recharge payment again once you’ve been updated. It’s fast, secure and easy to do via the My Telstra app or my.telstra.com.au. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to set up a Telstra ID to access My Telstra. 

If you use all of your data before your expiry date but still have calls or SMS remaining, you can purchase a data top up pack without needing to recharge the service early. Similarly, if you run out of calls or SMS before your expiry, the Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Casual plan also allows you to purchase top up for calls or SMS so you don’t need to recharge the service early.
