Can you activate a SIM card online?

Yes, you can activate your Telstra Pre-Paid SIM card online. Before you start, you’ll need your SIM serial number found on the back of the packaging, and a valid form of ID. When you activate, you can choose to transfer your current number from another provider, or get a new Telstra number. Once you’ve activated your SIM card, your Pre-Paid service should be up and running within 4 hours, but it can take longer. How do I activate my Telstra Pre-Paid SIM card?

Activate your Pre-Paid SIM card online in a few easy steps:

1. Go to
2. Sign in using your Telstra ID, or continue as guest
3. Enter your SIM details
4. Choose to transfer your number from your current provider, or get a new Telstra number
5. Fill out your ID details
6. Enter your contact details
7. Select a plan and recharge
8. Confirm your details and click ‘Activate’


How do I know if my SIM card is activated?

When your SIM card is activated, your service with your previous provider will stop working. We’ll also send you an email or text to let you know your Telstra Pre-Paid service is active. To check if your SIM card is activated, insert it into your device. Turn the device off and back on again. If you see ‘Telstra’ next to the coverage bars, your SIM is active. You can restart your device regularly to check if your service is active.

How do I recharge my Pre-Paid phone?

You can quickly recharge in the My Telstra app, track your data usage, change plan and get access to special offers. You can also recharge in My Account, as well as view and manage your Pre-Paid services online. Don’t forget, you’ll need your Telstra ID and password to sign in. How can I recharge my Telstra Pre-Paid mobile with my credit card?

You can recharge online using your credit or debit card. Simply enter your mobile number, choose your recharge amount and select the Credit/Debit Card option during payment. You can also recharge using a credit or debit card in My Account or the My Telstra app. If you choose to set up an auto recharge, you can save your card details and so your service recharges automatically. 

Can I use PayPal to top up my phone?

Yes, you can recharge your Pre-Paid service using PayPal. Go to and enter your Pre-Paid mobile number. Choose a recharge amount and select ‘PayPal’ when you make your payment. Sign in to your account and follow the prompts to securely make your payment.

How do I top up my SIM card?

You can recharge your Pre-Paid service or add a top up if you’re running low on data. Pre-Paid Plus Packs are another great way to get extra data or international roaming data on your mobile. Find out more about Plus Packs.

How can I redeem a recharge card online?
If you purchased a recharge card or recharge voucher in store, you can redeem it online. Enter your mobile number, click ‘Next’ and select ‘Yes’ when asked if you have a voucher. Enter your 12-digit voucher PIN and follow the prompts to complete your recharge.
