Stay connected overseas with International Roaming
Activate International Roaming on your mobile while you're travelling overseas: you can keep your Australian mobile number to enjoy calls, texts and data - all without changing SIM cards.
What is International Roaming?
It's a service that lets you use your Australian mobile number to make calls, send texts and use data in eligible overseas destinations, without having to swap SIM cards.
It's included with our Upfront Mobile Plans and if you have a Pre-Paid service, you can add International Roaming packs.
Choose what works for you:
- Day Pass with data top-up: Get data plus unlimited calls and texts. Add extra data for $10 per 2GB.
- Pre-Paid packs: Pick a pack that suits your trip.
International Roaming and International Calling - what's the difference?
International Roaming allows you to use your Australian mobile while you’re outside Australia and travelling overseas.
International Calling is for calling and texting someone overseas, while you're in Australia. See international rates for home phones.

No. Data roaming lets you use mobile data while travelling, but Telstra includes calls, texts and data in all roaming options. There isn’t a data-only choice.
Once enabled on your mobile service, an International Roaming Day Pass will activate the moment your service is switched on and used in an eligible destination outside of Australia.
Your International Roaming Day Pass will expire for:
- Upfront plans 24 hours from your service being used
- Non-Upfront plans at 11.59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)
- Any unused data expires at the end of each day.
Day Pass charges apply for the days when your service is used overseas to make or receive calls, send SMS, or if data is used, including background data usage. Receiving an SMS will not trigger your Day Pass.
Once you’re back in Australia, you can leave your International Roaming Day Pass switched on and you won’t be charged.
