They work by linking your sign‑in to your device and confirming it with built‑in security like your fingerprint, face recognition or device PIN.

When you use a passkey:

  • your device creates and stores a secure sign‑in key
  • you prove it’s you using your device’s security, not a password
  • nothing reusable is shared with websites, which helps protect you from phishing.

A passkey is a digital sign‑in method that replaces passwords.

Instead of remembering and typing a password, you use your device to confirm it’s you.

This means signing in is:

  • simpler, because there’s nothing to remember, and
  • safer, because your sign‑in is protected by your device.

 

How to set up passkeys

Setting up a passkey is usually quick and happens as part of regular account security settings. You don’t need to be tech‑savvy, and most services support backup recovery options.

To set up your passkey:

  1. Sign into the My Telstra app. 
  2. Go to your profile. 
  3. Scroll to 'advanced security settings' and select 'sign up for passkey'. 
  4. Add your passkey.
