How to get a new Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster

Why do I have to buy a twin pack – can’t I just buy one Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster?

You need to purchase the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster Twin Pack because you need to plug one of the Wi-Fi Booster discs into your modem and the other must be positioned elsewhere to extend the Wi-Fi signal.

What is the difference between the two Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Boosters?

The two Wi-Fi Boosters in your twin pack are the same. You need two Wi-Fi Boosters so that you can plug one into your Telstra modem and the other elsewhere to extend your Wi-Fi signal.

How many Wi-Fi Boosters should I buy?

While the number of Wi-Fi Boosters depends on the size of your home, a good guide would be two for 2 – 3 rooms, and two extra for greater than 3 rooms.

What is the maximum number of Wi-Fi Boosters I can buy and use in my home/office?

You can have a maximum of 4 Wi-Fi Boosters (2 twin packs) connected to your Telstra modem. Don’t forget that 1 of your Wi-Fi Boosters will need to be connected to your Telstra modem, but any others can be spread around your home/office

Will the Wi-Fi Boosters work with my modem if it’s not a Telstra modem?

No, the Wi-Fi Boosters are exclusive to Telstra Broadband customers and are only compatible with our Telstra modems.

Do I have to be a Telstra Broadband customer to buy the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster?

Yes, the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster is only available for Telstra Broadband customers.

Why do I have to pay for the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster if the Wi-Fi signal from the modem that I received from Telstra isn’t strong enough to provide coverage to my whole home/office?

We know that many customers receive good Wi-Fi coverage from our Telstra Wi-Fi modems, but that sometimes the Wi-Fi signal strength isn’t strong enough to cover some areas of customers’ homes/offices. We have developed the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster for customers in this situation, giving them the option to have up to 4 Wi-Fi Boosters connected to their Telstra Broadband service to allow them the flexibility to extend their Wi-Fi signal to areas that cannot be reached just with their modem’s Wi-Fi, such as down long hallways or in multi-storey buildings.

I already have a Telstra Smart Modem™/Telstra Gateway Frontier™ - how is the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster different to my modem?

The Telstra Smart Modem™/Telstra Gateway Frontier™ is a great modem as it provides you with a more reliable connection for your fixed broadband, with the ability to switch to the mobile backup when required. While your modem provides you with access to your broadband service and a Wi-Fi signal, the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster helps to boost your Wi-Fi signal’s coverage.

Is the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster available to use across all fixed broadband access types?

Yes, you can use the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster across all fixed broadband access types offered by Telstra – ADSL, Cable, nbn and Velocity.

Can I use the Telstra Home Dashboard™ App with my Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Boosters?

Yes, the Telstra Home Dashboard™ App will help you set up, manage and diagnose your network, even without a PC. Follow the steps on your Quick Start Guide for further information about how to download the App and get started.

I have a Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster plugged in, but it isn’t making any difference to my Wi-Fi coverage – what should I do?

If you haven’t already, download the Telstra Home Dashboard™ App and go through the set up process on the App to help you find a better position for your Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster. Otherwise, you can try moving the Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster to a different location in your home to see if the Wi-Fi coverage improves.

I purchased a Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster twin pack and gave one of the Wi-Fi Boosters to a friend. I have plugged the Wi-Fi Booster I have into my modem, but it isn’t making any difference to my Wi-Fi coverage – how can I fix this?

The Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster is sold as a twin pack because you need at least 2 Wi-Fi Boosters as provided in the twin pack to be plugged into your modem to extend your Wi-Fi coverage. You’ll need both Boosters in your home/office to assist with boosting your Wi-Fi coverage.

How does the Telstra Home Dashboard™ App work with my Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Boosters?

With the Telstra Home Dashboard™ App you can set up, manage and diagnose your network, even without a PC. The Telstra Home Dashboard™ App can help you set up your Telstra Smart Wi-Fi™ Booster by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Support tab and select ‘Set up a device’.
  2. Scan the QR code on the Quick Start Guide or on the back of the Wi-Fi Booster.
  3. Follow the step-by-step instructions on the App to get online.

How do I add extra Wi-Fi Boosters?

You can only do this once you have set up the first 2 Wi-Fi Boosters, with the option of adding an additional 2 Boosters to the same Wi-Fi network. To add the extra 2 Wi-Fi Boosters, you will need to individually connect the Ethernet port of each Wi-Fi Booster to a spare LAN port on your modem using an Ethernet cable. After approximately 5 minutes, the Boosters will go through a booting sequence and then should synchronise to the same Wi-Fi network name as the first 2 Wi-Fi Boosters. Once this is completed, you can unplug them and move them to anywhere in your home/office, within range of another Wi-Fi Booster.
Alternatively you can use the Telstra Home DashboardTM app to assist.
