Telstra international roaming is available in over 200 destinations. Check the destinations on your itinerary, and find out what the rates will be using our coverage map before you take off.
When you arrive, we’ll send you an SMS or email with the roaming rates you’ll pay in that country, and if you have international roaming activated. We’ll also let you know if you have an International Day Pass enabled. You won’t be charged to receive these notifications.
If the country you’re going to isn’t eligible for an International Day Pass, you’ll be charged pay-as-you-go roaming rates. Once you’ve arrived, we’ll send you an SMS or email with the rates you’ll pay.
We’ll also send you free SMS or email alerts to keep you up-to-date with your data usage.
- With International Day Pass: You’ll receive an SMS or email when you’ve used 50%, 85% and 100% of your data allowance
- With pay-as-you-go usage: You’ll receive an SMS or email for every $100 usage outside of any data allowance
You don’t need to reset international roaming when you travel from one country to another, it should roll over automatically.
Important: International roaming (including International Day Pass) is not compatible with the Telstra Mobile Starter Plan. If you have the Telstra Mobile Starter Plan, you’ll need to consider alternatives when overseas.

If you're a Pre-Paid customer, the good news is your phone is already activated for international roaming and you can set it up in a few simple steps. If you’ve previously turned this feature off, don’t worry; contact us and we’ll switch it back on.
Before you leave, check our availability map to see if international roaming is available in the destinations you’re visiting. If you’re visiting multiple destinations, click on each country and select Add to itinerary to add them to our itinerary builder. You’ll then see a summary of all your international roaming charges for each destination. You can even take a screenshot or print it off for reference later.
You should also make sure that your Pre-Paid phone is compatible with that country’s mobile network. Network types and frequencies vary by carrier and country. Contact us to check compatibility with your device. If you don’t want to use your Telstra Pre-Paid service while you travel overseas but you want to use your Telstra Pre-Paid mobile with an overseas carrier’s SIM, you’ll need to unlock your Pre-Paid mobile from the Telstra mobile network.
When you arrive in each destination that allows international roaming, we’ll send you an SMS or email telling you if you have international roaming activated and what the charges are for using your Pre-Paid device. We’ll also send you free SMS or email alerts to keep you up-to-date with your usage.
