Change my Wi-Fi name and password
Learn how to change the default name and password you use to connect your Telstra Smart Modem to Wi-Fi.

Every Wi-Fi network has a default name and password, also known as an ‘SSID’ and network key. For added security, you can change these to a name and password of your choice.
If you’re not sure what model you have, check What Telstra modem do I have?
The default username is admin.
The default password depends on your modem:
- Telstra Smart Modem Gen 4 and Gen 3: Use the Wi-Fi password on the bottom of your modem
- Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 and 1.1: Use Telstra.
If you’re not sure which Telstra modem you have, you can find the modem model name on the bottom or back of your modem or in My Telstra.
To find your modem in My Telstra:
- Go to Services
- Select your internet service
- Select View your devices
- Select Telstra Smart Modem and scroll to your modem details.

To change Wi-Fi username or password for Telstra Smart Modem Gen 4:
- Ensure your modem is connected to the internet
- Go to the address http://mymodem or http://192.168.0.1
- Enter your username and password to sign in
- Choose Wi-Fi Settings
- Enter your changes into the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Security Key fields
- Select Apply to save the changes.
To change Wi-Fi username or password for Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 and older:
- Ensure your modem is connected to the internet
- Go to the address http://mymodem or http://192.168.0.1
- Enter your username and password to sign in
- Choose Wi-Fi
- Enter your changes into the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Security Key fields
- Select Apply to save the changes.
