Pre-Paid mobile unlocking
Telstra Pre-Paid mobiles (including iPhones) are locked for use only on Telstra's network. To have your Pre-Paid mobile unlocked, an unlocking fee may apply.
Please contact us on 125 8880, or visit us in-store to arrange the unlocking of your mobile handset.
Device Back up instructionsPlease make sure you back up your mobile handset before trying any unlocking procedures. If you do not back up your mobile handset you may lose the information stored on your handset.
Please select the model of your device for back up instructions. For other models please click ‘Get Mobile Support’, select your handset and search for back up instructions.

Unlock your Pre-Paid Mobile
To unlock your Pre-Paid mobile you will need first find out what your IMEI number is. An IMEI number is a unique, 15-digit number given to all mobile devices. To find your IMEI number dial * # 0 6 # into your mobile. Please write down the 15-digit number, then contact us to help you unlock your mobile.
We will advise you of the applicable unlocking fee and discuss payment options. Once payment is received, we will provide you with the unlocking code and a Telstra consultant will walk you through the unlocking instructions.

Taking your Pre-Paid mobile handset overseasInternational roaming is already activated on all Telstra Pre-Paid services. This is to help you take your Pre-Paid service overseas with you. We recommend that you change your Pre-Paid offer to our freedom offer, this offer provides the best value for international call rates.
Pre-Paid international charges
If you don’t want to use your Telstra Pre-Paid service while you travel overseas but you want to use your Telstra Pre-paid mobile with an overseas carrier, you will need to unlock your Pre-Paid mobile from the Telstra network.
Locked to another providerIf your mobile handset is locked to another carrier’s network, you’ll need to contact that carrier if you want to take up a Telstra Pre-Paid service using that mobile handset. Alternatively, you can visit our online shop to see what deals we have on new Pre-Paid mobiles.
Mobile Phone on a contract unlockingAll current Telstra mobiles that come with a Post-Paid contract are not locked to our network. If you believe your mobile is locked to our network please try one of the following methods.
iPhone unlocking proceduresBefore attempting to unlock your iPhone make sure you back up your iPhone. If you do not back up your mobile handset you may lose the information stored on your handset.
iPhone 3, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S and 5 are possibly locked to our network, to unlock your iPhone select the ‘iPhone unlocking’ button.
You will need to know what your devices IMEI number is. An IMEI number is a unique, 15-digit number given to all mobile devices. To find this number, dial * # 0 6 # into your mobile and write down the 15-digit number.After 72 hours, follow these Apple unlock instructions to help complete the unlocking process.
Unlocking non iPhone mobiles proceduresIf your mobile handset is a non-Apple mobile handset and you believe your handset is locked to the Telstra Network, you should visit one of our Telstra stores to have them to unlock it. Alternatively you can contact us on 13 22 00 and say ‘unlock handset’ to have a representative help you with your enquiry.
Travelling overseasIf you're travelling overseas, you can take your mobile handset, tablet or mobile broadband device with you and still enjoy great rates and coverage.
International roaming
If you are about to travel overseas and want to check if your mobile handset is unlocked to the Telstra network, ask a friend that isn’t on the Telstra network to borrow their SIM to insert into your mobile handset. This will provide a way to see if your mobile handset is unlocked from our network.
If the SIM works and your mobile handset receives mobile coverage, then your mobile handset is unlocked. However, not all mobile handsets are compatible with overseas networks, even if your mobile handset is unlocked.
