Meet the Telstra Smart Modem 4, the next-gen upgrade to our Smart Modem 3. It’s built to handle more devices for more speed on Wi-Fi 7 compatible devices, and a more dependable connection compared with its predecessor.

Key features of Telstra Smart Modem 4

  • Wi-Fi 7: Enjoy faster theoretical Wi-Fi speeds and more reliable connections compared to Wi-Fi 6, even when the whole household is online and using Wi-Fi 7 compatible devices.
  • Better coverage: EasyMesh technology allows Telstra Smart Modem 4 to connect to a Telstra Smart Wi-Fi Internet Booster in a mesh network system, extending Wi-Fi coverage to more areas of the home than previous models.
  • Built-in 5G eSIM: On eligible plans, if your nbn® connection drops out, the modem can automatically switch to 4G or 5G backup if you're in a 4G or 5G coverage area. Backup speeds are capped at 25/5 for home internet (but actual speeds may be lower) and uncapped for small business internet plans. 
  • Advanced security: Telstra Smart Modem 4 uses the latest WPA3 security protocols and advanced encryption to help protect your privacy and data.
  • Smarter support: On eligible plans, SmartFix automatically detects and helps to resolve modem faults, often before you even notice.
  • Automatic optimisation: On eligible plans, Wi-Fi Doctor diagnoses Wi-Fi performance issues and helps provide instant solutions to improve signal quality.

Wi‑Fi 7 is the next generation of wireless technology. It’s built to meet the growing demands of modern Australian homes with multiple streaming, gaming and other devices and appliances all connected at once.

Here’s how:

  • Multi-Link Operation (MLO): Wi‑Fi 7 lets your compatible devices send and receive using multiple frequency bands—like 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz —at the same time. This means smoother performance than our previous modem even when your home is full of connected devices.
  • Improved channel coordination: It’s designed to reduce interference from nearby networks and help give you stronger Wi-Fi even in busy apartment blocks or densely populated areas.

Wi‑Fi 7 is backwards compatible with previous generations of Wi-Fi, but you’ll need a compatible Wi-Fi 7 device to take full advantage of the newer benefits.
