Stop searching: the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are awesome
2 top-notch phones from Google
If you love a phone that takes super-crisp photos, has great battery life and top-level security features, you can’t go wrong with either of these offerings from Google. Gorilla glass and cases made from 100% recycled aluminium make them feel good and look amazing. The Live Translate feature can translate live video captions, in up to 55 languages, and automatically works in private chats and messages1. No apps, Internet or language courses required2.
Voice recognition3 lets you easily get your phone to do your regular tasks, such as phoning your bestie or checking your diary. So, let’s take a deep dive into all the features that make the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro such awesome phones.
Faster and more secure than previous Google phones
The Pixel 6 range of phones is powered by Google Tensor, the first processor custom-made for Pixel. Tensor is fast, smart and very secure, and it adapts to you. Think of it as Pixel's very own powerhouse. This new custom-built chip keeps your games rich, your phone fast and your personal info safe. Because Google made their own chip, you have access to a heap of software features and can make faster, more secure computations on your phone without needing to access the cloud.
While most flagship Android phones run off Snapdragon Qualcomm 888 processors, the Tensor packs the same punch but offers greater security, AI and machine learning. In fact, the Pixel phones have some of the best layers of hardware security available, with the next-gen Titan M2™ security chip keeping them even more resilient to attacks. Talking about security, Pixel comes with at least 5 years of free security updates4 , to allow you to keep your data safer.
The most advanced Pixel cameras ever
Super revamped camera features
The Pixel cameras have both been upgraded to the max, offering some of the best imaging software you can get your hands on and pro-level lenses. Google machine learning and artificial intelligence tools help you take the best shots and videos.
- Magic Eraser lets you erase photo bombers or unwanted distractions5, so you are the star of the show. Face Unblur6 lets you go back and unblur faces in seconds.
- Nightscape mode lets you capture beautiful photos when the sun goes down and Motion mode lets you take long exposure snaps - perfect for sporting action or moving images.
- Portrait mode lets you blur out background images like a professional and can highlight the nuances of different skin tones beautifully.
Both Pixels have 12MP cameras on the front, but the fields of view (FOV) differ, the Pixel 6 has an 84-degree FOV, and the Pixel 6 Pro has a 94-degree FOV so you can get the whole gang into your selfies.
Want more than a front-facing camera? Pixel 6 has two rear-facing cameras, a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera. The Pixel 6 Pro goes one step further with 3 cameras on its rear, a powerful 48MP telephoto fitted with 4x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom, allowing you to capture objects or scenes that would usually be out of range. The Pixel 6 packs a 7x digital zoom, helping you to capture amazing levels of detail in your pics.
Pixel 6 vs Pixel 6 Pro: what's the difference?
The Pixel 6 features a 6.4-inch 1080p OLED screen that refreshes up to 90Hz. This means it's designed for great Full HD content in rich colour and vibrant blacks. The refresh rate gives you a smoother screen overall, so your day-to-day actions look super crisp.
The Pixel 6 Pro has a larger 6.7-inch screen with a higher resolution. It delivers a display resolution that’s 1440×3120, making everything look sharper with its refresh rate of 120Hz.
Besides different size screens, the Pixel 6 Pro features more storage than the Pixel 6, with a 512GB variant to sit alongside the 128GB and 256GB.
The Pixel 6 Pro also features more RAM at 12GB compared to the Pixel 6’s 8GB. It also has a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, packing a 4x optical zoom so you can get much closer and grab more detail.
The front camera is also boosted to 11.1-megapixels on the Pixel 6 Pro compared to 8-megapixels on the Pixel 6.
The 6 Pro is also the first ever phone to support mmWave 5G (see explainer, below).
Both phones are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus offering scratch resistance and extra protection. Even better, authentication doesn't involve removing your face mask, as both have a smart little fingerprint reader under the display. It's easy to use and gets you into your phone super-fast.
What is mmWave?
mmWave is pronounced “millimetre wave”. To keep it super simple, mmWave is like the superstar of the 5G network world. It's a short-range, high-frequency network technology that really highlights what 5G can do for you. We’re constantly seeking new ways to increase capacity. This is where mmWave can help - think of it as a huge pipe with lots more available bandwidth. Nearly 10x regular 5G, it can allow tens of thousands of people to be online connecting, streaming or uploading photographs at the same time. It’s another step towards delivering on 5G's potential with super-fast speeds and more capacity.
Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are equipped to handle this high-frequency variant of 5G. This means you can enjoy doing more cool stuff with your Pixel 6 Pro, thanks to our massive 5G network, which is now covering 75% of Australians. Think less load time for your favorite cat video, crystal-clear video calls with minimal lag and faster updates for your apps. With mmWave on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, say hello to a faster, smoother online experience. Cool, right?
Let's talk batteries
So, you know those times when you're halfway through an epic movie or you're out and about taking cool photos and your battery decides it's done for the day? Yeah, not fun.
The Pixel batteries have some great features to keep you powered up for longer. Machine learning and artificial intelligence let these phones adapt to you. Pixel's battery allocates power to the apps that you use most to last beyond 24 hours, even on 5G.
The Pixel 6 comes with a 4,614 mAh battery, and the Pixel 6 Pro has a bigger 5,003 mAh battery. These are both rated by Google for "beyond 24-hour battery life" and with Extreme Battery Saver mode turned on, you can get to 48hours, you can even decide which apps get power and which don't8.
Neither of the Pixels come with a battery charger but Google claims you can get up to 50% charge in 30 mins using a 30W USB-C charger (sold separately), they can also charge other devices with Battery Share.
Both Pixels support fast wireless charging, with the Pixel 6 rated for 21W and Pixel 6 Pro 23W with Google's Pixel Stand (sold separately).
Futuristic design
The Pixel phones take beauty and durability to the next level. Their stunning 2-tone design really make the colours and finishes pop. You won't want to hide these beauties away.
The black camera bar runs horizontally across the back of the phone. It doesn't wobble when put on a flat surface and offers a visually stunning contrast to your chosen colour scheme.
Want a phone with great built-in protection? The Pixel 6 phones are built from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus™. The toughest Gorilla Glass to date which really packs a punch and offers up to 2X better scratch resistance than previous Pixel phones8.
Prone to spilling your coffee? No prob, with IP68 protection, the Pixel 6 phones can take on water and dust with no problems9.
Both Pixel 6 models are pretty similar with Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back, flat thick screens and wonderfully rounded edges.
