Set up Telstra Mail on Windows Live Mail, Mail 10, or Vista Mail

To set up Telstra Mail in your own software, you’ll need to know our server details.

    Before you start

    You'll need your Telstra email address and password. Retrieve your Telstra email address or reset your password.

    Follow the step-by-step instructions for the software you're using to get started.

    To add your Telstra email address to Windows Live Mail:

    1. Open Windows Live Mail
    2. Select the Account toolbar, then select Email
    3. Add your Telstra Mail email account details:
      1. In Email address and Password enter your Telstra email address and password
      2. In Display name enter the name you want to appear on the emails you send (usually your name)
      3. Make sure ‘Manually configure server settings’ is ticked.
      4. Then select Next
    4. Configure the incoming server information:
      1. For ‘My incoming mail server is a’ choose IMAP from the drop-down box
      2. For Incoming server enter: imap.telstra.com
      3. For Port enter: 993
      4. Make sure ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’ is ticked
      5. For Log on using choose Clear text authentication from the drop-down box
      6. For Log on ID enter your Telstra email address
    5. Configure the outgoing server information:
      1. For Outgoing server enter: smtp.telstra.com
      2. For Port enter: 465
      3. Make sure ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’ is ticked
      4. Make sure ‘My outgoing server requires authentication is ticked
    6. Select Next. Your email now be set up.
    7. Select Finish.

    To add your Telstra email address to Windows Mail 10:

    1. Open Windows Mail 10, and select Settings - the cog symbol
    2. Select Manage Accounts then select Add Account
    3. Select Other accounts (POP, IMAP)
    4. Enter your email address and password, then select Sign in
    5. Your email account should be set up. Select Done.
       

    To modify your email account settings:

    1. Open Windows Mail 10, and select Settings - the cog symbol
    2. Select Manage Accounts then select the email account you want to modify, to open the account settings section
    3. Select Change mailbox sync settings to update your syncing options. Please note: this is optional. Once completed select Done to return to Account settings
    4. Select Advanced mailbox settings
    5. Update your server settings:
      1. For ‘Incoming email server’ enter: imap.telstra.com: 993:1
      2. For ‘Outgoing (SMTP) email server’ enter: smtp.telstra.com: 465:1
      3. Make sure ‘Outgoing server requires 'authentication’ is ticked
      4. Make sure ‘Use the same username and password for sending email’ is
      5. Make sure ‘Require SSL for incoming email’ is ticked
      6. Make sure ‘Require SSL for outgoing email is ticked
    6. Your email account should be modified. Select Done.

    To add your Telstra email address to Windows Vista Mail:

    1. Open Windows Vista Mail
    2. Select the Account  from the Tools menu, click Add then select Email Account
    3. Add your Telstra email account details:
      1. In Display name enter the name you want to appear on the emails you send (usually your name) and click Next
      2. In the Email address enter your Telstra email address 
      3. Then select Next. 
    4. Enter the server settings 
      1. Incoming server information:
        1. For ‘My incoming mail server is a’  choose IMAP from the drop-down box
        2. For ‘Incoming server’ enter: imap.telstra.com
      2. Outgoing server information:
        1. For ‘Outgoing server’ enter: smtp.telstra.com
        2. Make sure ‘Outgoing server requires authentication' is ticked 
        3. Then select Next 
    5.  In ‘Mail Logon’
      1. Enter your Telstra email address and password and click Next 
      2. Select Finish. 
    6. You will then be back on the ‘Internet Accounts’ page.
      1. Your email address will now be displayed
      2. Click on properties
      3. Go to the Advanced tab
      4. Enter your server port numbers
      5. Outgoing mail 465
      6. Incoming mail 993
      7. Tick ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’ under BOTH outgoing and incoming mail.  Click Apply and then OK

    Your email set-up is now complete.
