Phone damaged?

We know accidents happen. If your phone gets damaged during your lease, you have some of options.

You can pay to get it repaired by us or the phone manufacturer, depending on the nature of the damage. Or, you can pay a damage fee – when you upgrade after 12 months or when you return the phone to us.

If you have a cracked screen, you’ll pay a fee of $229 or if the phone can’t be fixed, you’ll pay $499.

For greater peace of mind, you can add Mobile Lease Assure when you sign up to the Business Mobile Lease plan for just $10 a month. This lets you upgrade your damaged phone for a new phone – any time and in any condition – for a flat fee of $190 so long as you sign up to a new 24 month phone and service plan.

With our lease plans, you’re leasing your eligible phone on a 24 month Device Lease Contract with a service plan – you don’t own the device.

If you upgrade, you must return your old phone. If you signed up to a lease plan prior to 22nd August 2017, you must return your old phone within 30 days of entering your new eligible service plan. From the 22nd August 2017 onwards, you’ll need to return your old phone within 14 days of entering your new eligible service plan. If you don’t return it, we’ll charge you a non-return fee, which is up to the device’s fair market value (to be advised at the time) plus 20%.

At the end of your lease, you must return the phone undamaged. If it’s damaged, you’ll pay the damage fee. If you don’t return it, (subject to our approval) you’ll continue to pay your monthly lease payments for up to 6 months, then a non-return fee of the device’s fair market value (to be advised at the time).

You can offer to purchase your phone device at the end of lease. Be sure to remove the SIM and any personal or confidential data from the device before returning it.

If you cancel your lease early or we terminate it for your breach before month 12, you must pay any remaining monthly lease payments (excluding any discounts as a result of your eligible service plan) and you will then own the device. If you cancel early or we terminate it for your breach after month 12, you can return the handset and pay $99 if it's undamaged or up to $499 if it is damaged or you can keep it and pay fair market value (to be advised at the time) and then own the device. All of these fees and payments are on top of any early termination charges for your service plan and accessories.

Business Lease Assure: Mobile Lease Assure can be taken up at the time you take up your handset and plan for $10 per month and lets you upgrade your device regardless of damage to a new device at any time provided you pay an upgrade fee of $190, return the damaged device to us and enter into a new 24 month eligible device and mobile service plan.

On and from 22 August 2017, if you take up Business Lease Assure, you will only be able to upgrade your device two times within each 12 month anniversary of your My Business Mobile Lease plan.

At the end of your lease contract you must return your device to us and with Business Lease Assure, if your device is damaged pay an additional fee of $190, or you may buy your device for fair market value (to be advised at that time). You may cancel Business Lease Assure at any time in which case the relevant standard fees and charges for your lease contract will apply.

My Business Mobile Lease Plans


How do I upgrade my handset on a My Business Mobile Lease Plan?

You can upgrade your handset on a My Business Mobile Lease Plan after 12 months of taking up your lease contract provided you return it in good working order pay a $99 fee and sign up to a new eligible 24 month Lease Plan .If you’ve taken up Business Lease Assure for an extra $10 per month, you can upgrade your handset at any time during the 24 month period regardless of damage. You can use Business Lease Assure twice within each 12 month period, starting on the purchase date of your eligible Plan .


What information do I need to upgrade my handset?

  1. Your handset’s IMEI number. 
    • If you have an Android™ handset you can find this through any of the following:
      • Dialling *#06#
      • From the Settings menu, select ‘About Device’ > ‘Status’
      • Under the battery
      • On the original box
    • If you have an iPhone you can find this by:
      • Dialling *#06#
      • From the settings menu, select ‘General’ > ‘About’
      • On the SIM card tray or back of the phone, depending on handset model
  2. Your lease expiry date.*
  3. Know whether you have Business Lease Assure.*
  4. Know the condition of your handset.

*By having a Telstra ID username and password, you can find your lease expiry date and whether or not you have Business Lease Assure in the Telstra 24x7® App and Telstra 24x7 My Account.


How can I upgrade?

To upgrade your handset you need to:

  1. et a new phone on an eligible 24-month handset and service Plan .
  2. Return your existing leased handset to us in good working order.
  3. Pay a $99 upgrade fee. After month 18 of your contract, there is no upgrade fee.

How do I return my existing phone?

You’ll be required to return your existing handset that you originally purchased with your Plan . If your leased handset was replaced under warranty, or insurance, you will need to provide proof of replacement.

If you upgrade your handset in-store, you must leave it with us once you have your new handset.

If you upgrade over the phone a pre-paid satchel will be sent out to you along with your new handset. If you signed up to a lease Plan prior to 22nd August 2017, you must return your old handset within 30 days of entering your new eligible service Plan . If you signed up to a lease Plan from the 22nd August 2017 onwards, you’ll need to return your old handset within 14 days of entering your new eligible service Plan . If you don’t return your leased mobile handset, you will be charged a fee for the handset which amounts to the Fair Market Value of the handset plus 20%.

You only need to return the handset and battery, not the handset accessories such as power cords etc.

What is Business Lease Assure?

Business Lease Assure allows you to replace your handset at any time regardless of damage when you pay a one off fee of $190 and take up a new 24-month eligible handset and service Plan .

How do I replace my handset with Business Lease Assure?

You can call us on 13 22 00, or visit your nearest Telstra store.

When you replace your handset you will be required to take up a new 24-month eligible handset and service Plan .


How many times can I use Business Lease Assure?

You can use Business Lease Assure twice within each 12 month period, starting on the purchase date of your eligible Plan .


Do I need to replace my handset with the same one when I upgrade?

No, you can upgrade to any eligible handset listed.


What do I do with the handset at the end of the contract?

At the end of your lease contract you must return your handset to us. If it is damaged you will be charged a fee of up to $299, or you can make an offer to purchase the handset for Fair Market Value (this is advised at the time).
