Australian households and small businesses are more connected than ever, with more devices online and greater reliance on fast, reliable connectivity for work, learning and everyday life.

From 1 July we're making some adjustments to home and small business internet pricing to keep pace with that demand. Here's what's changing, what's staying the same, and how we can help if you need it.

Long story short

If you've only got a minute, here's what you really need to know:

  • From 1 July, some home and small business internet plans are going up in price.
  • Higher-speed plans, including our Premium (100Mbps/500Mbps) option, are staying the same price.
  • These changes mean we can continue investing in our network, products and services as data usage continues to rise, while also taking into account higher nbn wholesale costs.
  • If you're looking for alternatives, we have different options at different price points, and if you need payment support, we can help with that too.

What's changing

From 1 July 2026, some nbn® home and small business plans will see price increases between $4 and $5 per month.

Our Premium 5G internet plan, which uses our mobile network, will increase by $10 per month. This is the first price increase since this plan launched over five years ago. Our two new, lower-speed 5G internet plans are not changing price.

We'll contact affected customers directly over the coming weeks to explain what these changes mean for them and set out the things they need to know.

Telstra Business Broadband (Legacy plans)

Some of our Telstra Business Broadband plans that are not available for sale (existing customers only) will also have some price changes to their base plan and speed add-ons. This may mean a price increase for some customers and, for others, no change in the overall amount they will pay.

What's not changing

Our higher-tier plans, including our popular Premium 100Mbps/500Mbps (fibre) plan, are staying the same price. As data usage and speed demands grow throughout the market, and more customers become eligible for fibre upgrades, we're maintaining stable prices on higher tiers to lower the barriers for these customers to transition to fibre.

nbn's free fibre upgrade program (for standard installation) is also not changing, which allows eligible customers to upgrade to FTTP and access faster, more reliable internet.

How internet use is evolving

The way Australians use the internet continues to evolve.

Households and small businesses are increasingly expecting fast, reliable internet, using more connected devices, streaming more content, and working and studying from home.

Average household data consumption has grown more than eight times over the past decade1. It's not just downloads. Video calls, cloud backups, and content creation have made upload speed just as important in 2026.

At the same time, demand for faster internet has grown significantly, particularly for 100Mbps plans and above.

Why we're making these changes

These pricing changes mean we can continue investing in our network, products and services, including things like:

  • Maintaining and improving the reliability and performance of our services
  • Our network security, including 24/7 network monitoring to help protect against scams
  • The latest technology, including our Wifi-7 capable Smart Modem, which has AI-powered SmartFix and capped speed mobile back up (mobile coverage required) on bundled plans
  • A range of support options for customers to choose from, including in-store, on the phone, through our website and our MyTelstra app.

Changing our prices also takes into consideration rising nbn wholesale charges and ensures we have a sustainable business to deliver for customers over the long term. Inflation data shows the communications sector has delivered increased services and falling prices for consumers (in real terms) over the past decade2.

Keeping options open for customers

We know affordability isn't one size fits all, and that different households and businesses have different needs.

That's why we offer:

  • Bundled plans and internet-only plans across different speed tiers, whether you want premium features or just the essentials
  • 5G Home Internet plans, including two new lower-speed, lower-price options from $70 per month (Smart Modem included), if fixed-line isn't right for you
  • More choice for nbn through Belong at different price points
  • Month-to-month plans, so you can switch when you need to

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please get in touch. We have a range of short term, longer term and alternative affordability options we can make available if you need it, and our teams can review your services to ensure you're on the best-value option for your situation.

Last financial year, we supported 1.9 million customers in vulnerable circumstances, contributed $126 million in social and community value through programs like Telstra Top-Up and safety and domestic violence initiatives, and delivered one million disaster relief packages.

Need help or want to review your plan?

We'll be in touch directly if your plan is changing. But if you'd like to talk sooner, we're here to help.

Whether it's reviewing your plan, discussing payment support, or exploring other options, our teams can help you find what works best for your needs and budget.
