You can use your Telstra Pre-Paid mobile when you travel to some of our most popular overseas destinations. This means you can stay in touch with your family and friends just as easily as when you're in Australia but without expensive hotel phones or complicated international calling cards. You also keep your existing number, so you don't have to worry about giving different details to your contacts.
What to do before you leave:
International Roaming is automatically available on your Telstra Pre-Paid service so you don't need to have it activated. However you should:
- Check the table below to find out the usage costs for each country you intend on visiting.
- Make sure you top up your credit before leaving. If you forget you can still recharge while overseas, but some service numbers may be charged.
If you don't already have a Telstra Pre-Paid mobile phone, then take a look at our list of phones.
Call Charges:
All calls made overseas will be charged in Australian dollars in real time, so it's easy to see how much you're spending. When you make a call you will be charged depending on the zone you are calling from. SMS is a flat rate charge and is not timed.
You can still check your balance anytime by dialling #100# or 125 8888. Calls to numbers starting with 125 will be charged while you’re overseas.
When someone calls you they pay the same rate they would as if you were in Australia, while you pay for the cost of having the call diverted to the country you are currently in. For example, if Jane is roaming in Singapore and Tom calls her mobile from his home in Melbourne, Tom pays the same amount as if Jane was still in Australia. Jane pays for the call to go from Australia to her mobile in Singapore.
From 4th November 2008 there will be changes to some Telstra Pre-Paid Pricing. Information on the changes.
