Recycling reduces landfill
Your old phones, tablets and smartwatches can all be recycled. Find out how.
Second Life Sounds is a musical reimagining of environmental sustainability.
Our goal is to re-use, recycle, repair, or donate one smart device for every two sold, by 2030.
Mix a pile of e-waste, Australia's ARIA Award-winning band The Avalanches and our 2030 goal to reduce our environmental impact and you get Second Life Sounds.
The Avalanches have helped us build a brand-new, fully functioning synthesiser, made from over 80% repurposed e-waste components like old mobile phones and electronic cables.
According to the World Health Organisation*, an estimated 62 million tonnes of e-waste was produced globally in 2022, with just over 20% of that total being recycled. That makes it the world's fastest-growing solid waste stream.
As Australia’s biggest telco, we have a responsibility to spread the word about the importance of giving your devices (such as phones, tablets, modems and chargers) a second life.
Remember not to throw these old devices out with your weekly kerbside collection. E-waste must be responsibly recycled as it keeps valuable metals and materials in circulation while protecting our people and planet.
Take your old smartphone to a Telstra e-cycle collection point at your nearest Telstra store. For other devices like wearables, locators and gaming consoles, visit your local e-waste recycling station.
Another great way to help the planet (and earn some extra bill credit) is to trade in your pre-loved device. Ask us about your eligible:
We'll give you an estimate of what your device is worth and if it's eligible, we'll add credit to your bill.
