Daylight Saving

While Telstra's networks have been adjusted to support the resumption of daylight saving, the software on some PDAs and newer mobile handsets may over-ride Telstra's network settings on these individual devices.

Telstra recommends customers who find their device is displaying the wrong time on Sunday 5 October 2008 to turn their device off, and on again, and recheck the time after a few minutes. This should allow your device to receive a time update from Telstra's network, which will be updated in line with the resumption of daylight saving in affected states on Sunday 5 October 2008.

Customers who do so, and still have the incorrect time displayed on their device, should check if they have one of the following devices: Nokia 6120c, Nokia N95, Nokia 2600c, Nokia 2680, all Windows Mobile PDA devices (i-mate 8502, 9502 and JasJam, HTC Touch Dual 850, HTC Diamond, Motorola Q9, Palm Treo, Palm Xenon and Samsung i601 BJ), all Blackberry Devices, all Danger (Hiptop and slide) devices, Ericsson W25 Fixed Wireless Terminal and Calyptech iFWT Fixed Wireless Terminal (Next G™ Wireless Link) and ZTE MF605 Fixed Wireless Terminal (Interim Telephone Service).

On Sunday 5 October 2008 the time setting of these devices may be affected in New South Wales, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and South Australia. They use an internal 'look up table' to adjust daylight saving time, and as the timings for the resumption of 2008 daylight saving have been changed by the State and Territory Governments, the internal lookup table on these devices may be incorrect. The only exceptions are the Fixed Wireless Terminals (Ericsson W25, Calyptech iFWT and ZTE MF605).

For device specific instructions on how to adjust the time setting of your device, please refer to the following pages.

If your device is not listed above and is not displaying the correct time, to ensure that your device updates correctly after the daylight saving transition, please try each of the steps listed below until the situation is rectified and the correct time is shown on your device:

  1. Turn your device off, and on again, and recheck the time after a few minutes;
  2. If you have manually deactivated Telstra's (default) network time update setting, consult your user handbook to reactivate it, and then turn your device off, and on again, and recheck the time;
  3. Manually adjust the time on your device - normally you will find this in the Settings or Date and Time menu on your device but if in doubt, please consult your user guide for more information.

Windows

Windows Mobile Devices

(i-mate 8502, 9502 and JasJam, HTC Touch Dual 850, HTC Diamond, Motorola Q9, Palm Treo, Palm Xenon and Samsung i601 BJ)

Customers using Windows Mobile Devices (i-mate 8502, 9502 and JasJam, HTC Touch Dual 850, HTC Diamond, Motorola Q9, Palm Treo, Palm Xenon and Samsung i601 BJ) are advised to download and install the WinMobile Patch update from Microsoft (if they have not done so previously). This update may be done at any time.

Further details, including Installation instructions and software are available from Microsoft.

Once the patch is installed, the device's internal table is updated to the correct daylight saving end date. The device will automatically adjust the time on Sunday 5 October 2008 at 2AM (time will be correctly adjusted one hour later). If you have already successfully installed the patch, no further action is required as the time setting on your device should be correct.

Telstra recommends customers with these devices:

  1. Download and install the WinMobile Patch update available from Microsoft.
  2. Customers with the HTC Diamond device will need to perform the additional step of changing their device to a different timezone (then click apply), before changing it back to the original timezone (then click apply). This will ensure that the patch is correctly activated for this device.
  3. Check the displayed time and times on calendar appointments, particularly any new recurring ones created from 5 October 2008 to 26 October 2008.
