Data Charges for the Web

Data charges are based on the amount of data that you use to browse and download, not on the amount of time spent using the application.

Some Telstra or BigPond services are free to access ("unmetered") and are clearly identified as such.

3G & Next G™ Data Packs

When browsing the mobile web from your Telstra Next G handset, you can choose to:

Subscribe to a Data Pack, which will give you a data allowance every month, or;
'Pay As You Go', at the rate of $2 per MB.

Select a Data Pack

If your mobile is on an eligible post-paid plan, a Data Pack gives you a set amount of data each month for a monthly fee. If you use more than this amount each month you pay for that extra browsing at a reduced PAYG rate - so you get more for your money. There is a range of Data Pack options that start from 30MB of included data per month - up to 12GB per month of included data. You can change your Data Pack as your needs change. Unused included data expires each month.

Pay As You Go (PAYG)

The Pay As You Go rate is $2/MB.

Pay As You Go doesn't have any included allowance, and you will be charged on a kilobyte (or part) basis. For example if you use 0.5MB in one session, it will cost $1. If your mobile is on an eligible post-paid Telstra plan, you can purchase Data Packs here. 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte and 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte.

Pre-Paid Browse Plus Packs

Select a Browse Plus Pack

If you have a Pre-Paid mobile service, Browse Plus Packs give you a set amount of data. Once you have used your allowance in the pack you revert to PAYG charges but you can purchase a new Browse Plus Pack at any time. These packs are not on a monthly subscription. Browse Plus Packs are available from 30MB to 4GB of included data. Unused included data expires after 30 days.

You may also be charged for you choose to access or download from the web. This can include Telstra or BigPond services, as well as 3rd party services. Some of the associated charges may appear on your Telstra bill or be deducted from your Pre-Paid balance.

Your data pack includes data that is for use in Australia only and won’t apply to any data you use whilst roaming overseas. Any data you use overseas will be charged at a rate of $15 per MB. If you are travelling overseas and plan to use your mobile to access the internet or send email, you should contact us on 125 109 about our international data roaming plans.
