Set up Telstra Mail on Outlook

To set up Telstra Mail in your own software, you’ll need to know our server details.

    Before you start

    You'll need your Telstra email address and password. Retrieve your Telstra email address or reset your password.

    Follow the step-by-step instructions for the software you're using to get started.

    1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2016
    2. Go to the Info tab and select Account Settings
    3. To create a new email setup, select New
    4. Select ‘Manual setup or additional server types’ and then select Next
    5. Select IMAP and then select Next
      1. In User information enter your name and Telstra email address
      2. In Log on information enter your Telstra email address and password
      3. Untick the box ‘Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)’
    6. Update the server information:
      1. In Account type enter: IMAP
      2. In Incoming mail server (IMAP) enter:  imap.telstra.com
      3. In Outgoing mail server (SMTP) enter: smtp.telstra.com
      4. In Mail to keep offline enter: User defined (all by default)
    7. Select More Settings
    8. Select Outgoing Server tab
      1. Tick the box My outgoing server SMTP requires authentication
      2. Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
    9. Select Advanced and under Server Port Numbers:
      1. For Incoming server (IMAP) enter: 993
      2. For ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ choose SSL in the drop down box
      3. For Outgoing server (SMTP) enter: 465
      4. For ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ choose SSL in the drop down box
    10. Select Ok and then Next.
    11. Microsoft Outlook will test your email settings. Once it’s done, select Close.
    12. Select Finish. Your Telstra email address should now be added.
       
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2013
    2. Open the File menu, then select Info
    3. Press the Account Settings button; then in the drop-down box select Account Settings
    4. In the Email Accounts window, select New under the email tab
    5. In the Auto Account Setup window:
      1. Make sure ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’ is ticked
      2. Select Next
    6. Make sure POP or IMAP is selected, and then select Next
    7. Update the User Information:
      1. In Your name, enter your name as you want it to appear on your emails; for example Sam Lynch or Belle E. Button-Lint
      2. In E-mail address, enter your email address ending in @bigpond.com or @bigpond.net.au
    8. Update the Server Information:
      1. In Account Type select IMAP
      2. In Incoming mail server enter: imap.telstra.com
      3. In Outgoing mail server (SMTP) enter: smtp.telstra.com
    9. Update the Logon Information:
      1. In Username enter your Telstra Mail email address
      2. In Password enter your Telstra email account password – REMEMBER it will be case-sensitive!
      3. Untick the box ‘Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)’
    10. Select More Settings and click on the Outgoing Server tab:
      1. Make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is ticked
      2. Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
    11. Select the Advanced tab:
      1. For ‘Incoming server (IMAP)’ enter: 993
      2. For ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ choose SSL in the drop-down box
      3. For ‘Outgoing server (SMTP)’ enter: 465
      4. For ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection’ choose SSL in the drop-down box
    12. Select Ok and then Next. Microsoft Outlook will now test the email settings.
    13. Microsoft Outlook will test your email settings. Once it’s done, select Close.
    14. Select Finish. Your Telstra email address should now be added.

    Good to know: If you get an error message, check whether you have mistyped your case-sensitive password. If you get a ‘Failed’ message, go back and double-check your settings.
     

    1. Open Outlook 2010
    2. Open the ‘File’ menu then select Info
    3. Press the Account Settings button, then in the drop-down box select Account Settings
    4. In the ‘Email Accounts’ window, select the Email tab then select New
    5. In the ‘Auto Account Setup’ window:
      1. Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is ticked
      2. Select Next
    6. In the ‘Internet E-Mail Settings’ window:
      1. For ‘Your name’ enter your name as you want it to appear in emails you send
      2. For ‘E-mail address’ enter your Telstra email address
    7. Update the server information:
      1. For ‘Account type’ select: IMAP
      2. For ‘Incoming mail server’ enter: imap.telstra.com
      3. For ‘Outgoing mail server (SMTP)’enter: smtp.telstra.com
    8. Update the log on information:
      1. For ‘Username’ enter your Telstra email address
      2. For ‘Password’ enter your Telstra email account password. OR if you're using two-step verification enter your app password
      3. Remember either password is case sensitive
      4. Make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT ticked.
    9. Select Test Account Settings. If your account settings are correct:
      1. You’ll see ticks to show the settings are correct
      2. You’ll get a confirmation email
      3. Good to know: If you don’t receive your confirmation email, check your Junk or Spam folder for the confirmation email.
      4. If your settings are wrong:
      5. You’ll see a ‘Failed’ message
      6. This usually means you’ve mistyped your settings or password
      7. Return to the previous steps and check your settings
    10. Select More Settings then select the Outgoing Server tab
      1. Make sure My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication is ticked
      2. Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected
    11. In the Outgoing Server tab
    12. Open the Advanced tab
      1. Make sure This server requires encrypted connection (SSL) is ticked
      2. For Outgoing server (SMTP) enter: 465
    13. Select Next. Then select Finish.
       
    1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007
      1. If the Microsoft Outlook 2007 wizard appears:
        1. Select Next
        2. In the Email Accounts window select Yes
        3. Select Next then go to Step 5
      2. If the Microsoft Outlook 2007 wizard does NOT appear, go to Step 2.
    2. Open the ‘Tools’ menu then select Account Settings
    3. In the ‘Email Accounts’ window, select the Email tab, then select New
    4. In the ‘Auto Account Setup’ window:
      1. Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is ticked
      2. Select Next
    5. In the ‘Choose E-mail Service’ window:
      1. Make sure Internet E-Mail is ticked
      2. Select Next
    6. In the ‘Internet E-Mail Settings’ window:
      1. For ‘Your name’ enter your name as you want it to appear in emails you send
      2. For ‘E-mail address’ enter your Telstra email address
    7. Update the server information:
      1. For ‘Account type’ select: IMAP
      2. For ‘Incoming mail server’ enter: imap.telstra.com
      3. For ‘Outgoing mail server (SMTP)’ enter: smtp.telstra.com
    8. Update the log on information:
      1. For ‘Username’ enter your Telstra email address
      2. For ‘Password’ enter your Telstra email account password. OR if you're using two-step verification enter your app password
      3. Remember either password is case sensitive
      4. Make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT ticked.
