How we hire retail at Telstra

The Talent Acquisition team talk about the steps involved in the retail hiring process at Telstra.


FOOTAGE: We open with a view from outside of a Telstra retail store as the lights are turned on. The title “How we hire Retail” is shown over the top. We are then introduced to Jessica, who is standing inside a Telstra office space talking to the camera.

JESSICA: Hi, I'm Jessica, and I'm a recruiter here at Telstra.

FOOTAGE: We change location to inside the retail store, where we see Luke, standing and also speaking to the camera.

LUKE: And I'm Luke, part of the retail team here at Telstra.

FOOTAGE: We change views between Jessica and Luke as they talk directly to us from their respective locations.

JESSICA: We're thrilled to guide you through the application process for Telstra Retail roles and share insights on the application process.

LUKE: Before we begin, let's talk about why a job in retail at Telstra is amazing.

FOOTAGE: We see footage of the retail store as Jessica speaks to us. In the footage we see phones on display and team members talking to each other before a montage of smiling store staff is shown.

JESSICA: At Telstra, you'll work with cutting edge technology, help customers find the right solutions, and be part of a diverse and dynamic team.

FOOTAGE: We see a retail staff member undertaking online training courses on a computer and then conducting in person training sessions in-store.

LUKE: The first step is to go to our careers website.

JESSICA: Take a moment to look at our retail page. Here you'll get an understanding of what it's like to work at Telstra, as well as find the opportunities across Australia.

LUKE: To apply for roles, simply click. Find a career on the top of the page and you'll find our available positions. When browsing roles, make sure you select the location you're based in.

FOOTAGE: We see over the shoulder of person scrolling on a computer screen, it is showing the retail careers page on the computer screen.

JESSICA: If you're unable to find opportunities in your city, don't worry. You'll be able to find express your interest links so that we can contact you whenever opportunities become available.

FOOTAGE: A title appears and reads “Step 2: Video Application” before we return to both Jessica and Luke in their places as they speak directly to us.

JESSICA: After submitting your application, keep an eye out on your inbox, you'll receive an automated email from HireVue, our video interview platform, with instructions on completing your video application.

LUKE: In your video application you'll be asked a series of questions. Take your time to express yourself, showcase your personality and highlight your skills. This is your moment to shine.

FOOTAGE: A title appears and reads “Step 3: Face-to-face interview”. We then follow a candidate entering a Telstra retail store and introducing themselves to a staff member, ready for an interview.

JESSICA: If your video application is successful, you'll be invited to a face-to-face interview. This will include both behavioural and technical questions.

FOOTAGE: We see the candidate in a private booth, as they are interviewed by the Telstra store manager.

LUKE: Technical questions will assess your knowledge of our products and services, while behavioural questions will help us understand your teamwork and customer interaction skills.

FOOTAGE: A title appears and reads “Step 4: Feedback and hiring process” before we return to both Jessica and Luke in their places as they speak directly to us.

JESSICA: After the interview, our talent acquisition team will review your performance. If you're the right fit for Telstra, you will receive feedback and guidance in the next steps of the hiring process.

LUKE: Our review is focused on each candidate, not just individual job applications, to ensure our fair and effective process.

As part of our Retail business, you'll be working in our Consumer & Small Business team. You will be the face and voice of Telstra and be on the floor directly supporting our customers, solving issues or concerns right there and then and provide a seamless customer experience.

Our retail team are also passionate about delighting Telstra’s customers through outstanding customer service.
