Update: 14th of May

What you need to know

We informed you last week of a cyber-security incident impacting one of our channel partners, Schepisi Communications.

Schepisi Communications has been the victim of a ransomware attack, where an unauthorised third party has accessed Schepisi’s systems and extracted data from them.

The third party has now released an amount of data. Due to the complexity and confidentiality of the data we are unable to advise exactly what information about you or your businesses has been released.

Schepisi has confirmed that the third party is no longer able to access its systems and there is no evidence to suggest that Telstra’s systems have been compromised.

What you should do

As a reminder, we strongly recommend you immediately reset and change any important passwords, and ensure they are not being reused for any other accounts.

If you do not use it already, now would also be a good time to start using a reputable password manager and to turn on multi-factor authentication where available for your important accounts.

Further details on setting up multi-factor authentication for your Telstra online account can be found here. Tips on how to protect your personal information online can be found here.

If you’re concerned about the potential misuse of your personal information, we’ve arranged free support from IDCARE, Australia’s national identity and cybersecurity community support service. Please engage an IDCARE Case Manager through IDCARE’s Get Help web form.

Please provide your referral code SCH21-IDC when completing the form.

Update: 8th of May

What you need to know

We're reaching out to you as a current or past Schepisi Communications customer to ensure you're aware of the incident.

We understand that an unauthorised third party has accessed Schepisi’s systems and extracted data from them as part of a ransomware attack. The data extracted may contain information or data that you provided to Schepisi either to obtain Telstra services or to obtain services directly from Schepisi.

Schepisi has confirmed that the third party is no longer able to access its systems and there is no evidence to suggest that Telstra’s systems have been compromised.

We're working with Schepisi to analyse the data and assess its impact on Schepisi’s customers. At this stage we have no evidence that you have been impacted, but we wanted to make you aware as a precaution.

What you should do

As an additional precaution we strongly recommend you immediately reset and change any passwords that you may use when working with Schepisi or may have shared with Schepisi, and ensure these passwords are not being reused for any other accounts.

If you don’t already, we also strongly recommend you use a reputable password manager and that you enable multi-factor authentication for any sensitive accounts where it is available.

We'll continue to update you as more information becomes available.

If you have any questions, call us on 1800 807 378, Monday – Friday, 9am – 7pm (AEST).
