Blue Tick

Go the extra mile with Blue Tick.

On Australia’s best network.
A farmer wearing an Akubra holds a mobile phone to their ear and is smiling. They are surrounded by desert with outlines of a farm in the distance.

Why choose a Blue Tick phone?

The Telstra Blue Tick is the mark we give phones that are certified to give superior voice coverage in rural and regional areas.

This means the phones were rigorously tested by engineers in our purpose-built facilities, before being taken to rural areas to confirm the results with real world testing.

Whether you’re on the farm, in a rural area or just want to make sure you’ve got the best opportunity for coverage, look for the Telstra Blue Tick.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Blue Tick first started, a crack team of engineers went bush with a range of devices to test exactly how they performed.

These days we do most of our testing in purpose-built facilities. Here we can simulate exactly how a new phone would perform as if it were being held in your hand on the very edge of a coverage area.

We seal the handsets in our echo-free chamber to ensure the tests are accurate. We then take the handset out into rural areas to replicate these test results. That way we can be certain that only the best-performing phones are awarded the Blue Tick.

Absolutely. We test every phone sold on our network but only the phones that provide the best coverage get a Blue Tick.

We’re continually testing new phones for Blue Tick coverage. Check out our wide range of certified devices to find the perfect match for your budget and needs.

Try these tips to get the most out of your Telstra Blue Tick phone.

  1. Hold your phone as loosely as possible
Try not to grip your phone too tightly when you’re on the edge of coverage. Your hand essentially absorbs and almost blocks part of your phone’s signal. Engineers call this a “detuning” effect.

  2. Turn on SMS and Wi-Fi calling
If you get coverage outside your home but not inside, you can turn on SMS and Wi-Fi calling. This lets you send texts or make phone calls using your home Wi-Fi, even if you don’t have mobile coverage.

  3. Try a signal repeater or antenna
An external antenna or repeater is much larger than the antenna in your phone and can pick up coverage your phone can’t.
