Changes to the Telstra Velocity Network are starting soon

On 24 December 2020, Telstra sold its Velocity Network to Uniti Group Limited, to be operated by Opticomm, its wholesale subsidiary. Over the coming months, Opticomm will be upgrading the network and become the new network access provider.

Opticomm is a wholesale provider and will not be the retailer of services on the upgraded network. Instead, Opticomm have a list of retail service providers who are able to help customers take advantage of the upgraded network. Like nbn, customers will continue to receive services from their preferred phone and internet provider - such as Telstra.

You can still join the Velocity network

Telstra Velocity is still open for business! You can join Velocity network now and simply transition to the Opticomm network when the time comes.

What is Telstra Velocity?

Telstra Velocity® is Telstra's own optical fibre network that uses Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology to bring you high-speed internet, phone, subscription TV and Free-to-Air TV services on a single connection.
With Telstra Velocity, you’ll enjoy typical busy period speeds (7-11pm) of 25Mbps on the Standard speed tier and 80Mbps on the Premium speed tier.

Telstra Velocity speed tiers

Velocity Standard Speed

Typical busy period speeds (7pm - 11pm)
  • 25Mbps download speed
  • 1Mpbs upload speed

Available on the Core Internet and Unlimited Internet plan

Velocity Premium Speed

Typical busy period speeds (7pm - 11pm)
  • 80Mbps download speed
  • 5Mpbs upload speed

Available on the Premium Internet plan

Actual user speeds will often be less due to their in-premise set up and how and when they use the internet. Internet speeds may vary due to: the website you’re visiting and their servers; Wi-Fi is less reliable than an Ethernet cable; in-home wiring; network capacity and network traffic; where your modem is located (set up your modem in a central spot away from your electric appliances). Wi-Fi Boosters can help improve connectivity. Some network terminating units at some Velocity Network premises cannot exceed download speeds of 93Mbps. If you would like the equipment and wiring at your premises upgraded, Telstra can provide those services at additional cost. When lots of people use the internet at the same time, such as between 7pm and 11pm, internet speeds can become slower. Actual speeds experienced will be lower due to a range of factors including location, equipment, software, data source and internet traffic. Speeds may be slower when your devices are connected via Wi-Fi rather than a network cable.
