If you already have an FTTN or FTTB nbn connection, you can install your Telstra equipment yourself. Here’s how to do it.
Before you start
If you have any of these services:
- Back-to-base alarms
- Medical alert services
- Lift lines
- Emergency service alerts
You’ll need to contact your device or alert provider to arrange a connection method that’s compatible with FTTN or FTTB. Telstra won’t be able to help you set them up because we don’t provide them.
1. Purchase a DOT or T-Biz Voice service
Digital Office Technology™ (DoT) and T-Biz Voice are Telstra services (internet & phone line) that transforms businesses through smarter call management. It delivers a VOIP (voice over IP) phone service giving customers the ability to be always on via their broadband connection.
If you haven’t already, you’ll need to buy one of these services to connect to the nbn network.
2. Set up your Telstra Gateway
DOT or T-Biz Voice will send you a Telstra Gateway. You’ll receive one of the following types:

In the following diagrams, FTTN and FTTB nbn connections are both referred to as VDSL.
To setup the Netgear v7610
- Check what’s in the box
- Connect the cables
- Activate your service
- Open your computer
- Open your web browser
- Open any web page
- The Installation Wizard should start automatically
- If it doesn’t, type http://192.168.15.1 into the search bar
- Select “Setup Voice Calling (for DOT customers only)” then click ‘Next’
- Enter your Gateway ID and Gateway password. You can find these in the DOT configuration email we sent you. Use this ID and password for T-Biz® Voice services as well.
- Select ‘Next’
Good to know
If you aren’t sure which wall socket is connected to the nbn network you’ll need to try each one.
i. The setup is complete. Select ‘Next’
ii. Select ‘Finish’
