Telstra and Regional Development Australia – Tasmania (RDA Tasmania) are coming together to boost digital inclusion across the state through Digital Uplift – Helping Tasmanians Access a More Connected Future. The program will begin with a strong focus on job seekers, one of the most digitally excluded cohorts in the state. This responds directly to the Australian Digital Inclusion Index, which shows Tasmania remains below the national average on access, affordability and digital ability.

Together, we’ll deliver practical digital skills training through Tasmania’s Regional Jobs Hubs Network – trusted, place-based centres that support job seekers, employees and industry right across the state. More than 4,000 Tasmanians are expected to take part in the first year, building confidence and the essential skills needed to participate online.

Digital Uplift will offer community-based workshops covering essential skills such as getting online, using digital tools for work, accessing government services online and strengthening financial capability. Drawing on local insights and on the ground experience, the program will be co-designed with Tasmanians to ensure it meets the needs of the people it aims to support.

This initiative forms part of Telstra’s broader commitment to support the digital inclusion of one million people by FY30, including at least 200,000 people in the Northern Territory, South Australia or Tasmania – areas where digital inclusion needs are greatest. We know digital ability is essential for economic participation. Tasmania continues to face skill shortages and lower than average workforce participation. Stronger digital capability can help more people enter work, progress in their careers and stay connected to their communities.

This multi-year partnership will provide stability and structure for long term digital skills development across the state.

John Wilkinson, Telstra Sustainability & Regional Affairs Executive said:
“We’re working to improve digital inclusion for communities across Australia. Partnering with RDA Tasmania means we can support more Tasmanians to connect, learn and thrive. Digital skills open doors - to work, to learning and to essential services - and by starting this program with job seekers, we’re helping to strengthen both social and economic outcomes for the state.”

James McKee, CEO of RDA Tasmania, added:
“Digital exclusion affects individuals and the wider economy. This partnership with Telstra will help Tasmanians build the essential digital skills that support job readiness, financial resilience and stronger community connection. It’s an investment in people, participation and productivity, and importantly in Tasmania’s future.”

Together, Telstra and RDA Tasmania are delivering a practical, community led program that supports inclusive growth and helps more Tasmanians participate confidently in an increasingly digital world.
