Towards a better connected future
Demand for data and connectivity keeps growing, and technology change means the world will look very different by 2030. Today, we announced our strategy for the next five years – Connected Future 30 – which will see us double down on connectivity and radically innovate in the core of our business.
One of our strengths throughout our history has been adapting and leading as technology changes. We have transformed the connectivity Australia relies on several times over, with the enduring purpose of building a connected future so everyone can thrive.
Now, as technology and connectivity are transforming again, we’re at an inflection point.
Why now
Customer needs are changing, and the connectivity we provide must become more sophisticated and flexible. Different aspects of our network, like uplink capacity, reliability, latency or security, are becoming more important for different customers. How we anticipate and meet changing needs will be crucial. And who we’re competing with is also changing.
We are in the early stages of a super cycle of investment in digital infrastructure, being driven by unrelenting demand for more data and connectivity. In five years, we’ve seen data on our mobile network more than triple.
There’s no version of the future that doesn’t rely on technology, and it all needs to be connected.
Building on our core connectivity advantage
Over the next five years, as new technologies including AI continue to be adopted, we expect the pace and scale of change to be extraordinary, driving even more demand for secure and reliable connectivity. As a connectivity and digital infrastructure business with a long history of innovation, this is a massive opportunity for us.
We’ve built a strong muscle through T22 and T25 in terms of how we deliver a strategy with discipline and focus, and this has laid the foundations for what comes next.
Our core connectivity business is strong; we have a successful infrastructure business with exceptional assets; and both our network innovation and customer reach are unmatched in Australia.
We will do what we do best, and we will adapt and lead to shape the future of connectivity.
We will push the boundaries of our network leadership, and make it simple for customers to get the connectivity they need in a changing environment.
We will step up our focus on being efficient and competitive.
And we’ll think differently about how we deliver value for our customers and for our business, so we can keep investing for the future. This means understanding our customers more deeply, treating our network as a product with its own commercial value.
As our capabilities get more sophisticated, we’ll offer more choice for customers to get more of what matters most to them.
Our ambition is to be the number one choice for connectivity in Australia.
We have three goals:
To lead in how we anticipate and deliver on the connectivity needs of our customers.
For example, by using AI to know our customers more deeply and proactively address their issues, showing up for customers in the way they need with both digital tools and human support, and making it simple to get increasingly sophisticated connectivity.
To build and operate Australia’s leading network and reinvent how we capture value from it.
For example, by investing to deliver the most advanced network in the country, and moving from selling bandwidth to selling value – like prioritised connectivity in congested areas, scalable bandwidth for a retailer in peak sales periods, or increased security for enterprises as the threat landscape evolves.
To be Australia’s leading digital infrastructure provider.
For example, by expanding our satellite ground station business and intercity fibre network – the only network of its kind in Australia able to support the data needed for AI.
Alongside these, four key enablers then underpin the delivery of our strategy.
Our People & Culture will be fundamental to our success, and we’ll continue to invest in them and build a high-performance culture.
In Technology Leadership, we’ll deliver the best experiences for our customers and our people while also driving value for our business.
Operating Sustainably is fundamental to supporting the productivity and prosperity of Australia and delivering value for our shareholders over the longer term.
On Financial Discipline, our focus will be on delivering positive operating leverage as driver of our growth.
Through this strategy we will deliver on our purpose to build a connected future so that everyone can thrive, and we will help enable Australia’s digital future.
