Doing better for communities
Technology connects us all. Our job is to help support Australians, of every background and ability, to have the skills and confidence to safely take part in the online world.
We’re partnering with Regional Development Australia to help lift digital skills for job seekers through the new Digital Uplift program, giving them access to better employment opportunities.
Digital Uplift is a program aimed at helping boost digital inclusion across the state with a focus on job seekers, one of the most digitally excluded cohorts in the state.
The Australian Digital Inclusion Index measures how easily Australians can access, afford and confidently use digital technology. It shows Tasmania remains below the national average, driving the need for programs like this one.
Digital Uplift will offer community-based workshops covering essential skills such as getting online, using digital tools for work, accessing government services online and strengthening financial capability. Drawing on local insights and on the ground experience, the program will be co-designed with Tasmanians to ensure it meets the needs of the people it aims to support.
Together, we’ll deliver practical digital skills training through Tasmania’s Regional Jobs Hubs Network – trusted, place-based centres that support job seekers, employees and industry right across the state. More than 4,000 Tasmanians are expected to take part in the first year, building confidence and the essential skills needed to participate online.
Digital skills open doors to work, learning and essential services. By starting this program with job seekers, we’re helping to strengthen both social and economic outcomes for the state.
- John Wilkinson, Telstra Sustainability & Regional Affairs Executive
This initiative forms part of Telstra’s broader commitment to support the digital inclusion of one million people by the 2030 financial year, including at least 200,000 people in the Northern Territory, South Australia or Tasmania – areas where digital inclusion needs are greatest.
This partnership with Telstra will help Tasmanians build the essential digital skills that support job readiness, financial resilience and stronger community connection.
- James McKee, CEO of RDA Tasmania
We know digital ability is essential for economic participation. Tasmania continues to face skill shortages and lower than average workforce participation. Stronger digital capability can help more people enter work, progress in their careers and stay connected to their communities.
This multi-year partnership will provide stability and structure for long term digital skills development across the state.
Together, we're delivering a practical, community led program that supports inclusive growth and helps more Tasmanians participate confidently in an increasingly digital world.
