Telstra Broadcast Services Awarded DPP Committed to Sustainability Mark
The DPP Committed to Sustainability programme is an industry-standard initiative to promote and celebrate best practices in environmental sustainability across the media sector. The programme provides a practical framework for companies to assess their environmental performance against key measures and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
On a technical level, Telstra Broadcast Services' success in the DPP Committed to Sustainability programme can be attributed to several key factors.
Firstly, Telstra has robust sustainability policies in place, including a publicly available Environment policy, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) policy and Human Rights policy.
Additionally, Telstra voluntarily discloses its environmental performance through frameworks such as the CDP, where we have consistently received high scores.
Telstra also adheres to several international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG), and ISO 14001 Environmental Management. These standards ensure that our sustainability practices are aligned with global best practices.
This transparency demonstrates Telstra's commitment to accountability and continuous improvement. We have set ambitious targets to reduce our environmental impact, including reducing our absolute scope 1&2 emissions by at least 70% by 2030 and scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2030 (both from a 2019 baseline), enabling renewable energy generation equivalent to 100% of our consumption by 2025, and increasing our network waste recycling rate to 90% by 2025. For more on Telstra’s sustainability commitment please refer to our most recent Sustainability Report.
‘We’re honoured to be recognised for this achievement as we aim to set a benchmark for other companies in the media industry and provide our customers, partners and stakeholders peace of mind when engaging with us.’ said Karen Clark, CEO of Telstra Broadcast Services.
TBS was previously recognised with a sustainability mark from the DPP in 2021. Our continued ability to uphold industry sustainability standards further highlights Telstra’s dedication to promoting environmental sustainability within the media industry.
