What are third party content purchases?

Why are there ‘third party purchases’ on my bill?

From 15 December 2021, Telstra will no longer allow SMS & calls to premium numbers (e.g. 19xx numbers). This is also known as Premium SMS. Learn more about the changes.

When you purchase products or services, the charges for them may appear as third party purchases under the Charges outside of your plan part of your bill.

The reason for this is that Telstra pays a third party provider for the product or service, then includes these charges on your bill. Third Party Purchases are not available for customers on a Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan.

From 10 May 2021 we are applying a $20 Premium SMS hard limit to all Consumer, Small Business and Enterprise Post-Paid Mobile services. Customers also have the option to take up a $110 spend limit or to bar Premium SMS services entirely. Please contact us on 13 20 00 if you wish to take up one of these alternatives .

If the charge is for a Premium SMS, you can find out about the company that’s charging you by entering the 19 number from your bill, plus the date it was charged, into the 19 service finder, opens in a new window.

If you can’t access and pay for third party content such as Google Play or the App Store, it may be because:

  • You have third party content barred from your service, or
  • You have reached your dollar cap
  • To remove the barring or increase your dollar limit, contact us.

For a business service, call 13 20 00 and follow the prompts.
