NAB adopts Quantium Telstra's Scam and Fraud Indicator to strengthen scam prevention

NAB is adopting Quantium Telstra's Scam and Fraud Indicator, bringing Telstra's telco intelligence across scam, fraud and mule activity together behind a single API.

The Scam and Fraud Indicator is designed to help organisations:

  • Spot potentially risky activity earlier, including signs of suspicious activity before money leaves an account.

  • Connect different sources of information: building a clearer picture of potential threats.

  • Strengthening existing fraud systems: adding new intelligence so teams can make faster, better-informed decisions

NAB Executive Enterprise Fraud Management, Shaq Johnson, said: "Scammers exploit gaps between organisations, industries and systems, which is why no single business can solve this challenge alone. Effective scam prevention depends on timely intelligence sharing, strong partnerships and coordinated action across the entire ecosystem."

"NAB has long advocated for a whole-of-economy approach to scam prevention and supports the intent of the Scams Prevention Framework to strengthen collaboration across sectors. Integrating the Scam and Fraud Indicator into our fraud and scam detection capabilities will help us act on intelligence earlier and continue building stronger protections for customers."

Telstra Enterprise Group Executive, Oliver Camplin-Warner, said: “Scammers don't work in silos, and neither can the organisations trying to stop them. The best responses bring together different sources of intelligence, helping organisations spot suspicious activity earlier and act faster. That's what we're doing with NAB through Quantium Telstra's Scam and Fraud Indicator. By bringing scam, fraud and mule intelligence together through a single API, we're helping turn insights into action and strengthening protections for customers.

It's also a great example of how the role of a network is evolving. Our network has always connected people and businesses. Increasingly, it's helping protect them too. By turning unique capabilities from our network into practical tools that solve real customer problems, we're creating new value for customers while helping make life harder for scammers.”

Quantium Telstra’s GM Scam, Fraud & Identity, Graham Dixon, said: “We've designed Scam and Indicator to be as adaptable as the threats banks are facing. It brings more than 60 risk signals together behind a single API and simple commercial model, that's privacy protective by design. That means banks can apply telco intelligence at different points across the customer journey and as threats evolve, they benefit from ongoing improvements to the intelligence without needing to integrate a new solution every time.”
