Telstra and VMware: A partnership that unlocks new possibilities for your end-to-end SD-WAN goals

Article content

Developments in network technologies are creating business opportunities, and partnerships between industry leaders are producing new possibilities.

Our customers often ask us questions such as: “How do you look beyond traditional MPLS to meet the changing demands of network technologies such as unified communications, AI, and cloud data analytics?”, “How do I offer secure, reliable connectivity to branches even in far flung locations like China?”, or “How do I automate my WAN to use the network in the most cost-effective, optimised way?”.

That’s why Telstra and SD-WAN market leader VMware SD-WAN™ by VeloCloud® are working together in a global joint model to help answer these core customer questions, and deliver greater value through simplified, automated branch networking to companies around the world.

“We’re excited to partner with Telstra to provide a complete end-to-end SD-WAN experience,” said Sanjay Uppal, Vice President and General Manager of VeloCloud, now part of VMware.

“VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud with Telstra go extremely well together, bringing out the best in each other, and delivering greater value for customers.”

Software-defined digital transformation

The organisational challenges Telstra and VMware SD-WAN tackle are clear: companies need to provide an optimal user experience for staff and customers, manage their connectivity environment, reduce cost and risk, and keep pace with business change.

Businesses are investing in architectures that allow them to harness data across their organisation, shift workloads to the cloud and connect more devices to their corporate networks. The enormous demand on the corporate WAN is necessitating new ways to manage and optimise branch networks.

It is for these reasons Gartner predicts that more than 90 per cent of WAN edge infrastructure refreshes will be on SD-WAN or vCPE (virtual customer premises equipment) platforms by 2023, up from just 40 per cent in 2018.

SD-WAN enables businesses to efficiently manage and use bandwidth, improving application performance, availability and visibility on their network. It simplifies the delivery of WAN services and automatically adjusts traffic flows based on performance.

Creating an end-to-end experience from complementary strengths

By bringing together VMware SD-WAN and Telstra’s proven global network coverage, implementation and consulting services, customers are offered a unique managed end-to-end solution from partners with complementary strengths.

VMware SD-WAN was recently named a Leader in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for WAN Edge Infrastructure. That technological leadership is underpinned by Telstra’s global network, which connects to more than 2,000 points of presence in over 200 countries and territories - carrying approximately a third of Asian IP traffic.

Delivering greater value together

“Our partnership with VMware SD-WAN is truly unique in that it brings together Telstra‘s global network expertise and VMware SD-WAN’s innovative solutions,” said Jim Fagan, Director of Global Connectivity, Networks and Platforms, Telstra.

“Increasingly we see our technology and business strategy come together through our shared vision – to deliver new and better experiences for our customers, provide holistic solutions, and deliver world-class business outcomes.”
