Telstra provides support to the Tiwi Bombers
Telstra has made a $20,000 donation to the Tiwi Bombers to help support its youth and community development programs on Bathurst and Melville Islands.
Telstra CEO Andrew Penn was today visiting the Tiwi Islands to talk to island leaders about the recently completed $3.4m upgrade to telecommunications infrastructure on the Island.
As part of his visit, Mr Penn took the opportunity to visit the Tiwi Bombers Football Club and met with Tiwi Bombers President and Chairperson Mary Dunn, Board Members, and local players.
“Telstra has been a long-time sponsor of the AFL and is pleased to provide this support to the Tiwi Bombers,” Mr Penn said.
“The Tiwi Islands has a long-standing association with the AFL and has produced a number of AFL stars in recent years.
“We hope this donation will go a small way to providing opportunities for the local community and supporting our next generation of superstar AFL players,” he said.
The Tiwi Bomber’s Mary Dunn is grateful for the support from Telstra.
“Supporting grassroots football and working with the community are key roles the Bombers football club and the AFL plays on the Tiwi’s,” she said.
“This one-off donation will help us expand our community programs, enable the purchase of new training equipment and also kickstart some new initiatives we had in plan such as providing mentors and training experiences for our new women’s team as well as additional support for our junior teams.”
