1234
As a Telstra customer, 1234 gives you everything you need to know from street directions, information from Yellow™ and Citysearch®, movie times and even sports results. You can also have information sent straight to your mobile phone by SMS.
1234 provides:
- residential phone numbers and addresses
- business phone numbers, fax, web and email addresses, opening hours and payment options where available
- movie times and cinemas
- weather conditions, marine reports, warnings, snow and ski information
- sports scores, fixtures and ladders
- street directions
- closest business type to you and turn-by-turn directions to get there
- answers to questions – ask the operator a question and they will search an extensive online encyclopaedia for the answer which can be given verbally or via SMS
- gig and concert listings
- restaurant, caf? and bar reviews and contact information
- international dialling codes and time zone information.
You can also SMS a request to 1234 when you are unable to talk. The operator will then send the information back to you as a text which you can store or forward to a friend.
Pricing

BigPond® Email with Windows Live®
BigPond Email and MyConnect services are being updated to BigPond Email with Windows Live, giving you access to features like photo editing, online storage, document creation and messaging, on your desktop, laptop, smartphone or other mobile device.
If you connected a new service on or after 10 February 2012, BigPond Email with Windows Live is available now. All other services with BigPond MyInbox will be updated to BigPond Email with Windows Live during 2012.

How you get it
You can use your favourite browser to access BigPond Email with Windows Live
If you use an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, you will need to update your email settings.
Settings for accessing Windows Live on your smartphone are available from the Hotmail website
When you are asked for a Windows Live ID/Hotmail ID, enter your BigPond/Telstra username and password.

My Account
With My Account you can manage all your Telstra bills and content subscriptions from your compatible post-paid Next G® mobile. Simply register for Online Billing, then:
- view and pay your bills
- analyse your call data
- check your account history
- save time, hassle and paperwork.

Your standard download charges may apply. The content you can access depends on your handset, the network you're connected to and network coverage.
Easycall
Easycall offers a range of services to help you stay in touch so you don't have to worry about missing a critical call, meeting or discussion. It includes Call Waiting, Call Enquiry and Conference Call.
Call Waiting alerts you if someone else is trying to call you when you are on the phone. You can put your current caller on hold and take the incoming call. You can also switch between callers. If you don't want to take the call, ignore the Call Waiting tone and it will stop after 20 seconds. You could also use one of our messaging services to handle the unanswered call like MessageBank®, Memo, or Message2txt™.
Call Enquiry allows you to make an outgoing call on your compatible mobile phone while you're already on a call. Your original call is placed on hold while you call the other number. You can also switch between calls.
With Conference Call you can talk to up to five other parties simultaneously.
Pricing
Normal call costs apply so Call Enquiry and Conference Calls are listed as call charges on your itemised bill. When you make Call Enquiry and Conference Calls, you may see two calls for the same time period. Calls are only charged if they are answered.
Facebook® and Twitter™ SMS
Stay social with mobile alerts and uploads – now you can receive FREE SMS alerts and send updates via text message, only on your Telstra mobile.
Anytime your friends comment, update their status, post to your wall or tweet, you can choose to hear about it via an SMS notification straight to your mobile, then instantly respond via SMS without having to login online. You can also update your status at anytime by sending an SMS direct to your Facebook or Twitter page.
Facebook SMS
- Sign up to receive FREE SMS alerts when there's a new event associated with your profile (wall posts, comments, friend invites and messages).
- Reply via text message to SMS alerts to comment, like or get more information.
- Create new SMS updates (including status updates, friend requests and wall posts).

Memo
Memo is an answering service that can be attached to any Telstra mobile phone and uses a receptionist to answer your calls and send your messages. It includes the following features:
Personalised Greeting: You can customise the operator's greeting to give your callers a professional answering service based on your personal or business needs. You can also provide the operator with information about your business to be given to your callers on request.
Email Drop Copy: A free feature that can send your message via email.
Message ID: All messages can have a counter added which will allow you to determine when you might have missed messages or messages have been delayed.
Redirection: Enables you to forward your messages to someone else based on a set of sophisticated calendar rules. For example, during business hours to one number and after hours to another.
Work Order Template 'Always in Business': You can specify four pieces of information and the operator will prompt callers for these details each time, for example, you may want to ask callers for their name, number of the reason for their call. Details are delivered in a pre-defined SMS format.

Message2txt®
With Message2txt, callers who can't get through to you will have the option to leave a short 10 second message that is converted to text and sent to you as an SMS. It is enabled when you don't have a messaging service (like MessageBank or Voice2Text) and your mobile phone is switched off, out of range, busy or unanswered.
Callers will hear this message: "The person you are calling is not available. Please leave a short 10 second message after the tone and we will send the message as a text."
If the caller leaves a message, you will receive a free SMS with the caller's message and mobile number (unless the caller's number is withheld). To return the call, simply press the call button. You can also reply to the caller's SMS.
You can turn off the service if you prefer – just contact us on 125 111.
Pricing
If the caller leaves a message, there is no charge to you to receive the SMS however the caller will be charged standard call rates as soon as the call is connected to the Message2txt service. If you reply to the SMS or call back, standard SMS or call rates will apply in these instances.
MessageBank
MessageBank is an answering service for your mobile phone, so you can still receive calls when your phone is unattended, busy, out of range or has a flat battery. It's simple, just dial 101 and follow the voice prompts to set up and explore MessageBank's features.
There are two types:
Standard
Suitable for all mobile phone users and Telstra Pre-Paid customers. You'll receive MessageBank Standard when you activate your Telstra mobile service.
Video
Suitable for Next G and 3G mobile phones where voice and video calls can be received into your mailbox. You'll receive Video MessageBank when you activate your Next G or 3G service.
As a Telstra Pre-Paid customer, you will need a Next G service to use Video MessageBank.

Picture and Video Messaging
With Picture and Video Messaging (MMS) you can share your best moments with friends and family. Take a photo, shoot a short video or record some audio – then add some text and send.
You can send Picture and Video Messages to any MMS capable mobile phone in Australia, any email address worldwide and to selected international mobile destinations.
Want to store or print your pictures? A Picture Message is a great way to get photos from your mobile to your PC – just send an MMS to your email address or sign up to BigPond® Photos.

Premium SMS Services
Premium SMS services or 19 SMS services are information and entertainment services that deliver various forms of content to your mobile phone. They can be purchased by making a phone call, sending a text message, or requesting them via the internet from your mobile. Examples include psychic and horoscope lines, weather services, voting lines for television shows or competition lines, dating and chat services, ringtones and exam result hotlines.
Premium services offered directly by Telstra can be accessed online or via BigPond® Mobile Services with various content services available through your mobile by dialling #100# or sending an SMS request to '176'.
Premium SMS services provided by third parties other than Telstra are offered via numbers starting with '19'.
Know what you're signing up for
When you buy content using a 19 number (such as a ringtone) you may be signing up to receive and pay for content on a regular basis that attracts a charge each time it is sent to your phone. You should read the terms and conditions carefully before signing up to determine if it's a once off charge or a subscription service.

If you send a text message requesting one ringtone, wallpaper or joke and experience any of the following:
- receive a ringtone/wallpaper/joke each month, and get charged for it
- get charged each month although you only requested and received one ringtone/wallpaper/joke
- get charged monthly and you didn't receive a ringtone/wallpaper/joke
- send several text messages to 'STOP' but continue to get charged
- never requested a ringtone/wallpaper/joke and you are charged
then the first step to stop further messages is to reply and type in the text 'STOP'. If this attempt to unsubscribe has been successful you should receive a confirmation text message. If you are receiving Premium SMS services from multiple providers, you will need to send a 'STOP' message to each provider.
If after sending 'STOP' messages, you continue to receive the messages, contact the provider directly. The provider's contact number is in the SMS you sent the 'STOP' reply to and can also be found on your Telstra mobile bill or by visiting 19SMS and entering the provider's 19 number into the 19 Service Finder tool.
If you have a Telstra Pre-Paid service and you are unsure of how your credit is being spent, you can call 125 8888 (a free call from your Pre-Paid service) and ask for a list of your charges. This list will contain the provider's contact information.
Some providers can supply a copy of requests received and items they have sent to customers (via fax or email). This can be useful in comparing subscriptions that have been requested and the 'STOP' messages sent, confirming whether the correct cancellation codes have been sent through.
Barring, monthly caps and complaints
You can bar all Premium SMS services on your mobile, so that you won't receive, be charged for, or be able to use these services after barring is activated. There is no charge to activate barring and it will not restrict your access to other services.
You can also request a spend limit be placed on your account. To request a spend limit, bar your service or make a complaint about Premium SMS charges:
- Telstra post-paid – call us on 125 111 and say 'Premium SMS'
- Telstra Pre-Paid – call us on 125 8880, press 5, then 1
Please allow up to one business day for barring to be activated. Barring does not apply to Premium MMS as Telstra does not currently offer Premium MMS services.

SMS Delivery Reports
An SMS Delivery Report is sent to your mobile to let you know when your text message has been delivered to your friend, family or colleague's Australian mobile number (or to their network, depending on the carrier, where available).
An SMS may not arrive straight away for the following reasons:
- their mobile is turned off or out of range
- their text message inbox is full and can't store any more until some have been deleted
An SMS Delivery Report won't tell you when the person has read your message, just that it has been successfully delivered. Depending on their carrier, you may receive an SMS Delivery Report when your text message has been successfully delivered to their network, not their mobile. This means you'll receive an SMS Delivery Report even if their mobile is turned off.
Pricing
SMS Delivery Reports are optional and charged at 5c per report when active (GST incl.) If your text message is longer than 160 characters, you may be charged for more than one SMS Delivery Report.
Send Messages Overseas
As a Telstra mobile customer, you can send texts, picture and video messages (MMS) to friends and family overseas on selected international phone companies' networks and also receive messages from them.
You don't have to do anything special to your phone or number. If you can send within Australia then you can send overseas. You can also send a picture or video message to any email address worldwide. Just make sure your friends and family have MMS working on their phone and that their carrier and country are participating as listed here.
International picture and video messages have a size limit of 300 kilobytes per message. If you try to send a message over this limit it may not be delivered. If the recipient isn't with a participating carrier, they may receive a text message directing them to a website to see your MMS.
Pricing
The cost of a 160 character text message originating in Australia and sent to an international number is 50c (incl GST). All international picture and video messages (MMS) are charged at a flat rate of 75c (incl GST) per message, per recipient.

If you're set-up to make international calls while overseas, you can still send to friends and family in Australia and to overseas destinations if their carrier and country are participating as listed here.
How do i set up smart controls restrictions?
Setting up Smart Controls restrictions is an easy 6-step process
- On the dashboard, select the mobile service that you would like to setup restrictions for and click 'Setup restrictions'.

- 'Initial setup' allows you to input a name you would like to assign to this mobile service for easy reference, select 'empty settings' and click 'next'.

- 'General restrictions' is where you can select recommended phone and internet categories to block, check the boxes according to your needs and click 'next'.

- Specific restrictions' is where you can input the exact phone numbers and/or websites you would like to always block. Input the relevant details and click 'next'.

- 'Safelist' allows you to specify any phone numbers and/or websites that are always allowed (exempt from any time restrictions). There are two types of safe lists - Standard and Exclusive.
- Standard safelist (default) refers to a list of numbers and websites that are exempt from any time restrictions, but does not block all numbers or websites by default.
- Exclusive safelist is the same as the above, however will block all numbers and websites by default.

- 'Special time periods' is where you can define the time of the day, for each day of the week when you would like the restrictions to be in place. For example, block phone and internet access during school hours and homework time.

- 'Summary' screen will display all the restrictions you have just inputted and if you are happy with them, click 'Apply'.


Text Messaging (SMS)
It's easy to send a text message. Simply key in your message using your mobile phone's keypad, press 'Send' and you're texting. You can now also stay in touch with SMS from your home computer via MyInbox.
Pricing
The cost to send a text message to standard Australian numbers is up to 25 cents per recipient (up to 160 characters), depending on your mobile plan, and they are free to receive. The cost to send a 160 character text message from Australia to an international number is 50 cents per recipient.
Tribe®
Tribe is a social networking service that is FREE to Browse within Australia for Next G® customers. It enables you to access and update Facebook®, Twitter™ and MySpace™ from a single location on your compatible Next G mobile. Tribe is exclusive to Telstra.
With Tribe you can browse and comment on your friends' updates and photos, view messages, wall posts and photo albums as well as update your own status. You can also upload photos to one or more social networks simultaneously. You can save time because once you've added Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to Tribe, there's no need to sign into each one separately anymore.
Tribe is exclusive to Telstra and is available to most Next G Post-Paid and Pre-Paid customers with a compatible handset.

Pricing
All posts and uploads within Tribe are free of charge. Browsing charges apply when you leave Tribe and access Facebook, Twitter and MySpace directly.
Standard SMS and MMS charges apply for uploads sent using SMS and MMS. Charges will also apply for all browsing when roaming internationally.
Tribe alerts delivered by SMS are FREE of charge Standard SMS and MMS charges apply to send messages back to the Tribe service on TRIBE (87423).
Video Calling
Whether it's sharing a funny moment with a friend, sending a birthday message, getting advice on a gift before you buy or saying goodnight to the kids when you're away – making a video call is easy.
Before you make a video call, you should check:
- you have 3G or Next G® coverage on your mobile handset
- the person you are calling has a 3G or Next G handset and has good network coverage in their area
Outside a Next G or 3G coverage area
If you make a video call to a person with a video calling capable Telstra mobile (Next G or 3G) while they are outside a Next G or 3G coverage area, the video call will be unsuccessful and you will have the option to make a voice call instead. If the person you are video calling is not answering, on another call or their mobile phone is switched off, the video call will divert to their Video MessageBank®, if they have one activated.
You must be in a Next G or 3G coverage area to view video messages on your Video MessageBank, but you can hear the voice component of your video messages outside these areas. Simply dial '101' and select either a voice or video call.
If you or the other person on the video call move out of a Next G or 3G coverage area, your video call will drop out. You will be able to call the other person back with a voice call. To check if you're in a coverage zone, simply locate the Next G or 3G signal display on your mobile handset.
There may be places within our Next G or 3G coverage areas where access to video calling and Video MessageBank is limited or unavailable – in high-rise buildings for example.
You can use your Next G handset to make international video calls to 3GSM customers of mobile carriers in selected countries where we have arrangements in place.

Voice2Text
Sometimes it's just not convenient to listen to your voice messages. With Voice2Text, you can get your voice messages without dialling into your MessageBank® because they will be automatically converted to text and sent to you as an SMS.
Pricing
Choose the Voice2Text pack that will best suit your needs based on the number of messages you think you may receive per month. You can easily switch packs from one month to the next if your usage patterns change. Voice2Text charges are in addition to your standard MessageBank costs.

When you first subscribe to a Voice2Text pack, you'll automatically receive your first month usage free1 (including monthly charge and usage charges above the monthly included messages). At the end of the introductory offer you'll automatically move to the monthly Voice2Text pack you have selected.

Things you need to know
- Introductory offer: available once for each customer. Standard MessageBank charges apply to MessageBank usage during the introductory offer period.
Unused included messages expire monthly.
If the voice message is too long to convert into 3 text messages, the text will be truncated and the message will tell you to call 101 if you want to listen to the entire message.
Voice2Text replaces any other voice mail or messaging service you may have, other than MessageBank.
Voice2Text will do its best to convert the caller's message accurately into a text message, but the conversion may not be totally accurate in cases like if the caller's voice or words are unclear.
We may use a third party to assist in the translation of a voice message.
You should receive the text message about 3.5 minutes after the caller leaves the voice message, but sometimes it may take up to 20 minutes.
