Eather Group is an Indigenous family-owned business offering sustainable solutions to traditional issues in the civil, construction and waste-to-resource industries.

Its vision is for a circular economy in construction, caring for Country through cost-saving sustainability initiatives, caring for community through diverse employment opportunities and pathways, and caring for culture through strong values.

The Penrith-based family business is owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Peter and Sally-ann Eather.

With a team of over 40 employees, the company works hard to ensure that materials excavated from the earth are carefully managed and assessed for opportunities to be recirculated as building materials, setting a new precedent for sustainability.

The business also facilitates ‘local jobs for local people’ project guidelines and personal values, sourcing staff and subcontractors from the areas in which they operate, creating career pathways, and employing candidates with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.

As of February 2024, 38% of their staff identify as First Nations, 38% are women in a non-traditional industry, and 45% are in learning roles.

In his speech to accept the 2024 Telstra Best of Business Awards Indigenous Excellence National Award, Peter described how Eather Group’s mission to enable “construction from destruction” allows them to divert millions of tonnes of material excavated from major projects and repurposing them, massively reducing waste materials and honouring the land.

“In 14 years, I've been able to save nine million tonnes of material and diverted that back into the building industry. It's not a waste. These are products that need to be respected. For perspective, four million tonnes of that has gone back into the brickworks which has the potential to build 250,000 homes.”
