Turning tragedy into purpose: Happiness Co's journey

Julian Pace’s 21st birthday was meant to be a day filled with happiness and joy. Instead, he was faced with the pain of losing his father to suicide. Rather than allow his life to be defined by the suffering he felt, he decided to use that pain as purpose and his sadness as strength.

That moment in Julian’s life was a turning point, leading him to the creation of Happiness Co — a social movement designed to help make the world a better place.

Using his personal tragedy as his north star, Julian and the Happiness Co team set about to create change in the mental health space, focusing on pre-emptive treatment to help protect other families from the pain he went through following the death of his father.

The Happiness Co team provides Australians with practical tools to better recognise and manage their emotions, helping them live healthier and happier lives.

Julian's commitment to improving the lives of Australians began with a 21-day Happiness Challenge, inspiring participants to positively impact the lives of those around them. The success of the challenge saw Happiness Co expand its range of services to include mentorships, live workshops and taking its programs into workplaces and schools with the aim to make happiness attainable.

While the team was unable to deliver its programs and workshops in-person during COVID, they pivoted and created online solutions to ensure people in the community could still access support, from those services now reaching tens of thousands of Australians each month.

An incredibly deserving winner in the 2023 Telstra Best of Business Awards Western Australia Building Communities and Championing Health categories, Julian is excited about the impact the Awards will have on helping his team achieve their goal.

These awards have already changed my life and our business in the most amazing way. For all other business owners out there, be brave, be bold and take a chance, you never know what lies around the corner.
