Lethal Company: what is it, and tips to get started
What is Lethal Company?
Lethal Company is a game developed and published by Zeekerss. It’s a game where you work for the monolithic “Company”. You’re contracted to travel to distant and abandoned worlds as a team to recover scrap you can sell for credits.
But it’s not that simple. Lethal Company sends you to dangerous places full of monsters, giant bugs and weird aliens that all want one thing: you.
It’s safer during the day to get around the planet, but if you work at night, get ready to run.
You have to brave the darkness to find old engines, bottles, bolts and even street signs you can trade in for credits. You have three days on each planet to fill your quota. If you don’t fill your quota, you’ll be automatically flushed into open space by your Company autopilot.
If you make it off the planet alive, you can spend your bonus credits on everything from flashlights to new suits; walkie talkies to scanners. Just make sure you don’t miss your quota!
How much is Lethal Company?
Right now, Lethal Company is on Steam Early Access. That means you can get access to an early version of the game for just $14.50.
Lethal Company right now only supports Windows, but given its incredible popularity, we should hopefully see it pop up on different platforms shortly.
Tips for playing Lethal Company
The best games are the ones that are simple to play, and hard to master. That’s exactly what Lethal Company is. Of course, there are ways to get great quickly. Here are our top tips for playing Lethal Company.
Assemble your team
Lethal Company is best played with two or three friends. There are already mods that allow you to have up to 16 people for added chaos, but start out with just a handful until you learn the game’s mechanics.
Make sure everyone has a microphone and the ability to chat (and scream) freely. It’s important everyone can use proximity chat, or catch up in the lobby once you’ve been inevitably killed by a monster.
Read your database
Every time you encounter a new creature, your database is updated. Make sure you take time to read these database entries, as you can find a wealth of info about how to beat or bypass these enemies.
For example, there’s an enemy that only moves when you’re not looking at them. Another will allow you to sneak by them so long as you don’t touch them or their webs. All this info and more is in the database.
Don’t ring the bell too much
Delivering your scrap to The Company is an essential way to get credits. Simply drop your stuff on the platform and ring the bell. Once.
But be careful not to ring the bell too many times. If you do, the collection monster will lose its temper and thrash anyone outside the hatch to a grim fate.
You shouldn’t even raise your voice when dropping off!
Use your ship’s radar
Not everyone needs to venture into a building to look for scrap. As soon as you can afford it, buy two walkie talkies and leave one person on the ship.
The person on the ship can use the built-in radar guidance system to follow their crewmates around the facility. The radar will allow you to spot enemies for them even in dark rooms, and radio them when you spot a threat.
Of course, you could always not radio them, and wait for the inevitable screams?
Don’t dawdle
You probably don’t want to hang around too long on an alien planet where everything wants to kill you. But it’s especially true in Lethal Company.
Your autopilot will automatically take off at midnight on every job, so you’ll want to make sure you’re back on deck with the doors closed by then. Or else you’ll be left behind!
Watch some content
A great way to get acquainted with the mechanics of Lethal Company is to watch some content creators do it first. That way you don’t make their mistakes and waste time learning.
