Do good and code for a cause at the Appiness Hackathon
Telstra has joined forces with Pollenizer to bring together some of the brightest designers, engineers and entrepreneurs for its inaugural ‘Appiness’ Hackathon.
Telstra Digital Executive Director, Gerd Schenkel, said the event will give 50 aspiring developers one week to collaborate and create an app or startup concept that solves a real-world problem for one of four deserving charities or not-for-profit organisations.
“Technology and innovation have the power to transform our world and make it a better place. Corporate Australia has an important role to play in facilitating digital innovation and as a leader in its industry, Telstra is eager to contribute.
“From finding easier ways to donate or reducing carbon footprint, our 50 developers will collaborate with one of four organisations – including Planet Ark and the Australian Red Cross – to create apps that can help make a positive difference to the community.
“We’re looking for passionate individuals – from a professional or amateur background – to participate in what’s set to be an exciting and ambitious competition,” Gerd said.
Pollenzier CEO, Phil Morle, added: “The start-up community has developed so much talent and a discipline for rapid innovation. This is a great opportunity for passionate developers to come together, code for a cause and create a working prototype for a worthy organisation.
“Working alongside some of Telstra’s senior leaders and well-known practitioners from the start-up and digital community, including Mi9 CEO Mark Britt and ex-Spreets founder Dean McEvoy, this event will be a live competition to see who’s got the best idea and the skills to bring it to life in just three days.”
The winning app will be judged by a panel of judges including Kate McKenzie, General Managing Director of Telstra Innovation Products and Marketing.
The Appiness Hackathon will be held on 24 – 25 May and 1 June. Places are strictly limited to 50 attendees. To register for attendance or for more information, visit: http://sydneyappiness.com/
