Data Advantage - moving wholesale data into the future

Media Release, 10 September 2012

A new suite of data products available to Telstra Wholesale customers today offers the industry the biggest national data footprint with the latest technical features, taking data product supply efficiency to a new level.

Data Advantage is a complementary set of new layer 2 data products, specifically designed for wholesale customers who need to move more customer data, more quickly, while making it easier, faster and more cost effective to implement.

This high performance portfolio offers a full range of capability across four products:

  • Managed Leased Line – a premium transmission product with both SDH and Ethernet interfaces, catering for customers requiring the reliability and reach of Telstra’s SDH network - backed with 24/7 dedicated proactive monitoring of individual services by our world-class Global Operations Centre;
  • Ethernet Access – built on a new VPLS enabled network, it is ideal for customers requiring geographic reach to end-users, while providing greater network flexibility. With a footprint growing to 1700 exchanges and MEF 9 and MEF 14 certified where provided over fibre, national Ethernet aggregation and four Classes of Service (CoS), Ethernet Access is the ultimate in data network flexibility and connectivity. Customers with existing copper access services can also take advantage of Ethernet Access;
  • Ethernet Backhaul – utilises the same VPLS enabled network and is specifically tailored for customers with large capacity requirements;
  • Wavelength – a very high capacity point-to-point fibre product that carries data traffic between major cities and data centres and will be enhanced to cover all NBN points of interconnect (POIs).

According to Telstra Wholesale’s General Manager for Product Solutions, Bryce Blacker the Data Advantage portfolio is an exciting new range of data products utilising the latest technologies and operating principles.

“We are delighted to announce its availability today,” Mr Blacker said.

Data Advantage products use a new simpler zone-based pricing.  All of the new products are supported by Telstra Wholesale’s ‘Quote Tool’ which provides instant access to pricing, giving wholesale customers the ability to respond to end-user requests even faster.

“With consumer, business and enterprise data usage increasing exponentially, our customers can now manage the data needs of their end-users and clients more easily,” Mr Blacker said.

“They can download the Quote Tool application to their desktop and in a matter of minutes, locate the route they want to deploy and select the best service to meet their needs.

“Over time we are confident our customers will be won over by the simplicity and power of this new data offering,” Mr Blacker said.

Existing data services will continue to be supplied and supported as wholesale customers transition to the new Data Advantage products.
