Group-General Counsel Carmel Mulhern adds Corporate Affairs role

Media Release, 25 August 2017

Telstra today announced Group General Counsel Ms Carmel Mulhern had been promoted to take on the added responsibility of the company’s Corporate Affairs group following the resignation of the Group Executive of Corporate Affairs, Dr Tony Warren.

Ms Mulhern will become Group General Counsel and Group Executive of Corporate Affairs when Dr Warren leaves Telstra on 22 September 2017. Dr Warren has resigned to take a newly created position as Group General Manager, Communications and Public Affairs, at ANZ Banking Group.

Telstra CEO Andy Penn said Ms Mulhern was a highly respected leader at Telstra and was a natural fit for the corporate affairs role.

“Carmel has been at Telstra for 17 years and in that time has shown tremendous leadership protecting Telstra’s reputation and managing risk across our business,” Mr Penn said.

“Carmel is well suited to this new role, having a strong knowledge of government, a central role in Telstra’s most sensitive communications for many years, and a keen sense of corporate responsibility. The Board and I look forward to working with Carmel in her expanded role.”

Ms Mulhern said: “As a long-time legal counsel at Telstra, I have worked closely with our corporate affairs team for many years. Our stakeholders – including shareholders, governments, media, community groups and customers – take a keen interest in activity at Telstra and the corporate affairs team plays a central role keeping all of those groups properly informed. I look forward to leading such a talented team as Telstra continues its leadership role in the industry.”

Mr Penn thanked Dr Warren for his 15 years of service at Telstra.
