Profile

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway in 1979 and in London’s West End in 1980. It has since had numerous revivals worldwide as well as a 2007 film adaptation by Tim Burton whichstarred Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. One of the darkest musicals ever written, Sweeney Todd hassimultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences across the world.

In this dark tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietor of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice.

When revenge eludes him, Sweeney Todd swears vengeance on the entire human race, murdering as manypeople as he can, while his business associate Mrs. Lovett bakes the bodies of his victims into her meat piesand sells them to the unsuspecting public. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when the integration of this newingredient has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun! Life Like Company is thrilled to celebrate this Tony Award-winning show’s 40th birthday in 2019 with a gruesome and ghoulish new production.
