There are many different ways you can talk to your Telstra Smart Home via Alexa on your Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.

Who is Alexa?

Alexa is the voice of Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. You can tell her what you want your Telstra Smart Home devices to do.

How do I ask Alexa to control my Smart Light Bulbs?

Please note: We’ve used examples of names you can give to different lights, groups of lights and plugs.

  • To turn a light on or off:

    Say ‘Alexa, turn on/off the bathroom light’

     

    To dim a light

    Say ‘Alexa, dim the lounge light

     

    To brighten a light

    Say ‘Alexa, brighten the kitchen light’

     

    To set the brightness to an exact level

    Say ‘Alexa, set bathroom light to 50%’

     

    To turn all the lights in a group on or off

    Say ‘Alexa, turn on/off lights in master bedroom’

     

How do I ask Alexa to control my Smart Power Plugs?

  • To turn a plug on or off

    Say ‘Alexa, turn on/off the iron smart plug

     

    To turn all the plugs in a group on or off

    Say ‘Alexa, turn on/off living area plugs

What can I do with the groups in the Alexa app?

You can group different devices together and control them all by one command, using the group’s name.

How do I set up a group in the Alexa app?

  1. Open the Alexa app
  2. Go to the Groups tab
  3. Select Add Group
  4. Select Smart Home Group
  5. Choose one of the suggested group names or create your own name
  6. Select Next.

How do I add Telstra Smart Home devices to a group in the Alexa app?

  1. Open the Alexa app
  2. Go to the Groups tab
  3. Select the Group you would like to add the devices
  4. Scroll down the list of devices connected to the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot
  5. Select the device you want to add to the group
  6. Select Save
  7. To see the updated group, select the Groups tab.
