You can use the Telstra Smart Home® app to make your Philips Hue lights to turn on, dim or change colour automatically.

What type of automations can I set?

The two types of automation are:

  • event-based automations
  • scheduled automations

What is an event-based automation?

This type of automation lets you program a light to react when something happens. For example:

  • turn on when your motion sensor detects movement
  • turn on when the front door opens
  • turn red when your smoke detector detects smoke
  • turn blue when your leak detector detects water

How do I set up an event-based automation?

In this example we will demonstrate how to set up an event-based automation when your Telstra Smart Home motion sensor detects movement.

Before you start

You’ll need a Telstra Smart Home motion sensor.

  1. Open the Telstra Smart Home app
  2. Go to the bottom navigation bar and select Automations
  3. Select Create New
  4. Select Motion Sensors
  5. Select your motion sensor from the list. In this example it is Front room motion
  6. Select Motion
  7. Choose whether you want this to happen to a Hue Group or a single Hue Light
  8. Select the light or group
  9. Select the action you want to happen. In this example, we want the light to turn on
  10. Review your automation. If you want, you can also set the day, time or mode when you want this automation to happen
  11. Select Save

What is a scheduled automation?

Scheduled automation is a great way to automate your lighting.  You can create schedules to turn on/off, change colour and even dim your lights.
