If you’re on a mobile, tablet or mobile broadband plan, we’ll send you an SMS when your data usage reaches 50%, 85%, and 100% of your monthly allowance.

If you have a 13 digit account number, your alerts may be sent in ‘real-time’, which means you’ll get them as you’re actually using the data.

What if my device can’t receive SMS?

You can register to get the usage alerts by email instead, using the steps below.

Can I turn off SMS data alerts?

Yes - you can turn data usage alerts on or off via Telstra 24x7 My Account or on your mobile. Turning off or on doesn’t use any data.

Turn SMS alerts on or off – via Telstra 24x7 My Account:

  1. If you haven't already, register for a Telstra ID, then login to Telstra 24x7 My Account
  2. Select your mobile number
  3. Select ‘Data Usage’ or ‘Shared Data Usage’ from the right side
  4. Scroll down and select ‘Data Usage Alerts within Australia’
  5. Now select from ‘Email’, ‘SMS’ or ‘OFF’ and then press ‘Save’.

Turn SMS alerts on or off - on your mobile:

  1. Open your phone's internet browser and type in: my.telstra.com.au
  2. Log into 'Telstra 24x7 My Account' and select your mobile number on the left side
  3. Select ‘Data Usage’ or ‘Shared Data Usage’ from the top of the screen
  4. Scroll down and select ‘Data Usage Alerts within Australia’
  5. Now select from ‘Email’, ‘SMS’ or ‘OFF’ and then press ‘Save’.

Good to know:

  • If you have Shared Data you can select different alerts for each of your services.
