Telstra offers a range of post-paid and pre-paid mobile plans, as well as handset repayment options and SIM-only plans.

In June 2019, we simplified our post-paid mobile plans to make it easier for you to understand your Telstra services.

Our new Mobile Plans and Data Plans are month-to-month with no lock-in contracts, meaning you can move up or down the different plan tiers once per month without incurring service Early Termination Charges (ETCs) or having to recontract. This means you’ll have the flexibility to change your plan as your needs change. Find out more about our new plans.

Our post-paid mobile plans include:

  • Unlimited SMS, MMS and MessageBank® in Australia to standard Australian numbers
  • Data usage alerts
  • Wi-Fi access at Telstra Air® hotspots in Australia

Not sure what plan you’re on?

If you signed up or recontracted from 25 June 2019, you’re on one of our new, simplified plans. These new plans have no lock-in contracts, meaning you can change your plan once a month. If you move to a higher plan, you’ll get the larger inclusions straight away and will pay a higher amount from the next payment date. If you choose to downgrade your plan, you’ll get the smaller allowance from the next payment date.

If you signed up before 25 June 2019, you’re on an old plan. This means you can change your plan, but you may incur additional charges. This could include an ETC, and you may also need to pay any remaining device or accessory repayments when you make the change.

Still not sure which plan you’re on? You can check your service details using the My Telstra app or My Account.

What’s a handset repayment plan?

If you’re on a Telstra post-paid mobile plan, you have the option of adding a mobile handset at a discounted monthly cost. There are two ways for you to pay for your device, depending on which plan you choose:

  1. A Device Payment Contract (DPC)
This lets you pay off your phone in interest free, monthly repayments over a 24 month contract.
  2. A Device Leasing Contract (DLC)
This means you lease the handset for 24 months instead of owning it and will need to return the handset undamaged and in good working order at the end of the lease period, or if you cancel or change your plan early.

 Good to know:

  • Depending on the value of the plan, you may also get a Device Plan Discount. This reduces the amount you pay for your DPC as long as you stay connected on your 24 month plan.
  • If you cancel your plan but still have outstanding handset repayments, you’ll be required to pay these when cancelling.

Will I get the Device Plan Discount?

If you’re a new or existing post-paid customer with an eligible handset plan, you may receive a Device Plan Discount while you remain connected on that plan.

What’s a ‘SIM-only BYO mobile’ plan?

A BYO plan is a great option if you already have a compatible mobile phone handset. It’s a 12 month contract that comes with an allowance of calls, messages and data for use in Australia, but does not include a phone handset.
